Honeywell and AM Green have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at India Energy Week 2025 to evaluate the techno-economic feasibility of producing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from ethanol, green methanol from carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and green hydrogen. This collaboration aligns with Honeywell’s focus on the energy transition and supports India's goal of enhancing energy security.

The partnership aims to:

  • Reduce India's dependence on crude oil imports.
  • Position India as a key global exporter of green methanol, aiding the shipping industry in adopting this low-emission alternative fuel.
  • Support airlines in meeting Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) mandates by providing low-carbon, drop-in fuel replacements.

Ashish Modi, President of Honeywell India, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Partnering with AM Green will accelerate India’s low-carbon transition and foster an ecosystem supporting the government’s SAF blending mandates. By integrating Honeywell’s proven carbon capture technologies and ethanol-to-jet solution with AM Green’s expertise in green hydrogen and ethanol production, we are paving the way for a more sustainable future and reinforcing our commitment to environmental stewardship.”

Mahesh Kolli, Co-Founder and Group President of AM Green, highlighted the company’s commitment to clean energy, saying, “We are excited to collaborate with Honeywell, a global technology leader shaping the future of energy. This partnership reinforces AM Green’s position as a key player in the global clean energy transition. By producing green methanol, we will contribute to decarbonizing hard-to-abate industries such as shipping, steel, and cement while supporting India’s ambition to become a leading exporter of sustainable, cost-effective green molecules and derivatives.”

Beyond industrial benefits, this initiative will create new opportunities for Indian farmers by increasing demand for ethanol feedstocks. Additionally, it aligns with the government’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, boosting domestic and export-oriented green hydrogen production through green methanol.

The feasibility study is expected to be completed by mid-2025, marking a crucial step toward large-scale decarbonization and reinforcing India’s role in the global clean energy landscape.
