India: India Potash Limited has been allowed to import Urea until March 2024, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade announced. Previously, India Potash was authorized to import Urea till March 2023. Besides India Potash Limited, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers, and National Fertilizers have been given the go-ahead to import fertilizer as per existing policy regulations.

The Government Account shall allow the import of Urea (for agricultural purposes) to be either carried out by designated STEs or through any entity/entities (Fertilizer Marketing Entities) authorised by the Department of Fertilizers. Additionally, imports of Technical Grade Urea (TGU) meant for non-agricultural uses, industrial use, or NPK Manufacturing shall remain free.

India has plenty of fertilizers available for the upcoming Kharif season. Farmers can easily access what they need to ensure that their crops are planted and harvested properly. The Kharif season, which begins in June-July and ends in October-November, relies heavily on rainfall. Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya has confirmed that the country is adequately prepared to handle the farming needs of the nation during this period.
