Government of India has decided to increase the quantity of ethanol in Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) to deal with the issue of heavy increase in imports of petroleum products. The government has decided to increase the production of cleaner fuel by increasing ethanol blending from 5% to 10% by 2022. Oil marketing companies have been producing EBP at 5% blending and require around 3290 million litres of ethanol per year to produce 10% EBP.
