Eni and Petroci have announced a notable expansion in gas supply to support power generation in Côte d'Ivoire. Phase 2 of the Baleine project, launched in December 2024 as planned and with stringent safety measures in place, marks a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to strengthening the country’s energy sector and industrial progress. This development greatly enhances energy accessibility within Côte d'Ivoire.

The project will provide up to 70 million cubic feet of gas per day, fully dedicated to satisfying local energy demand. This ensures a stable and reliable power supply for the nation while further establishing Côte d'Ivoire as a key energy hub in the region. The success of this initiative is attributed to the close cooperation between Eni, Petroci, and Ivorian authorities, leveraging Eni’s integrated strategy that prioritizes responsible resource management and generates positive socio-economic impacts.

Simultaneously, Eni has achieved a substantial increase in oil production, reaching a daily output of 60,000 barrels—three times the 20,000 barrels produced in the previous phase. Notably, Baleine is Africa’s first net-zero upstream project for Scope 1 and 2 emissions. This achievement has been made possible through advanced carbon-reduction technologies and innovative sustainability programs implemented in partnership with the Ivorian government.

Among these sustainability initiatives is a locally produced improved cookstove distribution program, which has already benefited over 600,000 vulnerable individuals. Additionally, the project includes efforts to protect and restore 14 classified forests, contributing to overall carbon neutrality. These measures align with Eni’s broader goal of minimizing the environmental footprint while maximizing energy output and economic benefits for the local population.

With Phase 1 completed in August 2023, Phase 2 operational as of December 2024, and Phase 3 currently in the planning stages, production is expected to scale up significantly. Projections indicate that once fully developed, the project will yield 150,000 barrels of oil per day alongside 200 million cubic feet of associated gas.

Since its entry into Côte d'Ivoire in 2015, Eni has remained dedicated to energy production while also fostering sustainable development. The company actively invests in key social initiatives such as education, vocational training, healthcare, and economic diversification. These efforts are closely aligned with the country’s national development strategies, ensuring long-term benefits for both the economy and local communities.

Through this ambitious expansion, Eni and Petroci continue to play a crucial role in advancing Côte d'Ivoire’s energy infrastructure. Their combined efforts not only reinforce the country’s position as a regional energy powerhouse but also contribute to sustainable economic growth and environmental stewardship.
