Eneva, Brazil’s leading private natural gas operator and integrated power generator, has announced its first small-scale natural gas supply contract with Copergás, a gas distributor based in Pernambuco. Under the agreement, Eneva will provide gas from its Parnaíba Basin concessions and handle the liquefaction, transportation, and regasification of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The regasification will occur at Copergás’ facilities in Petrolina and Garanhuns, which will be managed by Eneva.

The agreement will remain in effect for three years, starting from the anticipated beginning of commercial supply at the end of August 2024. The company will provide natural gas until reaching the maximum contracted quantities, with expected daily deliveries of up to 35,000 m³ in Petrolina and up to 5,000 m³ in Garanhuns.

Marcelo Lopes, Eneva’s Executive Director of Marketing, Sales, and New Business, states, “The agreement with Copergás is highly significant as it marks Eneva’s initial contract with a small-scale distributor. This is a vital move towards establishing this market beyond the grid, aligning with one of the Company’s strategic priorities.”

Felipe Valença, CEO of Copergás, remarks, “The arrival of Eneva aligns with Copergás’ strategy to enhance diversification in our natural gas supply. One of the main challenges in the natural gas market is the lack of competitiveness among suppliers, which is why we continuously seek new supply solutions through our public tenders. Partnering with Eneva introduces a new supplier into our network, strengthening our internalization process and improving commercial conditions. This collaboration will help us lower operating costs and offer better tariff rates for our customers.”

The contract signing solidifies Eneva's expansion strategy for marketing natural gas to third parties and ensures a steady revenue stream by utilizing a portion of the available capacity at the Parnaíba Complex liquefaction plant.

Eneva is a leading integrated energy operator, encompassing activities from natural gas exploration and production (E&P) to delivering comprehensive energy solutions. The company’s E&P assets are located in Amazonas, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Goiás. Eneva currently manages 12 natural gas fields in the Parnaíba (MA) and Amazonas (AM) Basins. Additionally, it holds the largest onshore exploration concession in Brazil, covering over 54,900 km².  With a generation portfolio boasting 5.95 GW of contracted capacity both in operation and under construction, Eneva provides reliable and competitive energy to the Brazilian electrical system. Additionally, Eneva operates in the Free Energy and Natural Gas Market, offering a strong business platform to the industry.
