Dow Expands Mechanical Recycling with Acquisition of Circulus, North American Polyethylene Recycler

Dow (NYSE: DOW) has announced its agreement to purchase Circulus, a prominent converter of plastic waste into post-consumer resin (PCR). The acquisition includes 2 facilities situated in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Arab, Alabama, with a total annual capacity of 50,000 mt. The transaction is anticipated to be finalized in the third quarter of 2024, pending customary regulatory approvals.

"This acquisition allows Dow to merge our advanced materials science technology with Circulus' film recycling expertise, speeding up our progress towards achieving our 2030 Transform the Waste goal," said Karen S. Carter, President of Packaging & Specialty Plastics. "It also broadens our industry involvement, empowering us to deliver greater value to customers by directly producing high-performance circular products that brands and consumers increasingly seek."

Dow's proficiency in materials science and high-performance resins, coupled with Circulus' mechanical film recycling capability, will enable Dow to expand its product offerings in applications such as collation shrink packaging, stretch film, liners, and various food packaging solutions. This enhancement will extend Dow's reach into broader markets including industrial, consumer goods, and transportation sectors.

This acquisition aligns with Dow's previously announced commitment to convert plastic waste and alternative feedstocks into 3 million metric tons of circular and renewable solutions annually by 2030.
