Dow has announced that its Propylene Glycol (PG) manufacturing plant in Map Ta Phut, Rayong, Thailand, has achieved the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS. This certification highlights Dow’s dedication to promoting sustainable production and delivering circular and bio-circular products in the Asia Pacific region.

Introducing Sustainable PG Products in Asia Pacific

By adopting innovative technologies, Dow will launch two new sustainable PG products in the Asia Pacific market, both certified by ISCC PLUS through mass balance:

  • Propylene Glycol CIR: This product incorporates Renuva™ recycled material, allowing customers to utilize hard-to-recycle post-consumer and post-industrial waste as sustainable feedstocks.
  • Propylene Glycol REN: Featuring Ecolibrium™ bio-circular technology, this product helps reduce reliance on fossil fuel-based feedstocks.

These new PG products are designed to support customers in achieving their circular and sustainability objectives. They are suitable for various applications, including personal care, pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, flavorings, and fragrances.

"Securing ISCC PLUS certification is a crucial achievement for the Map Ta Phut PG plant," said Heidi Xu, Asia Pacific commercial director, Dow Polyurethanes. "This certification enables Dow to offer verified circular and bio-circular solutions to our Asia Pacific customers, maintaining premium quality standards. It strengthens our capacity to help customers meet their sustainability goals and enhances our efforts, in partnership with the value chain, to promote a circular economy and reduce environmental impact."

This accomplishment expands Dow’s range of sustainable PG solutions, now available across North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia Pacific region.

"At Dow, we are committed to providing sustainable PG products globally," said Vincent Lacoste, Dow's global business director for CAV and POPG. "This certification reflects our leadership in sustainable production and dedication to advancing a low-carbon, circular future."

Following a recent capacity expansion and the ISCC PLUS certification at the Map Ta Phut PG plant, Dow Thailand is now recognized as a prominent supplier of sustainable PG products in the region.

"Our 2024 expansion made Dow Thailand’s PG plant the largest in Asia," stated Vichan Tangkengsirisin, Dow Thailand president. "Achieving ISCC PLUS certification underscores our operational excellence while adding a sustainable dimension to our accomplishments. This world-class facility is now well-equipped to meet customer demands both locally and regionally."

The ISCC is a globally recognized certification standard that ensures supply chains are fully traceable and environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable. Dow's adoption of circular and bio-circular feedstocks, verified by ISCC PLUS certification, ensures accurate tracking of alternative feedstocks through the mass balance method.
