Dow (NYSE: DOW) and Fiori Group, a company specializing in the collection, storage, and processing of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, have announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing a new ecosystem for recycling end-of-life (EOL) vehicle parts and materials.

The MoU outlines both companies' plans to analyze the dismantling process and its effects on the quality and recyclability of EOL waste fractions. Additionally, it aims to establish a new ecosystem business model using a 'test and learn' approach. The Fiori Group and Dow MobilityScience™ teams will share updates on their experimental findings, working together transparently to develop a valuable prototype for recycling EOL vehicle parts and materials.

Our expertise in repurposing both metal and non-metal materials, along with sorting various materials from end-of-life vehicles, has made us a leader in Italy's recycling market," said Mauro Grotto, vice president of Italmetalli, a Fiori Group company. "Partnering with Dow allows us to be at the forefront of developing new solutions to meet European recycling targets for end-of-life vehicles, aligning with our core principles of scientific research, reclaiming the value of waste, and transparently communicating this value in an educational manner."

Dr. Esther Quintanilla, Dow’s global MobilityScience™ marketing director, emphasized the importance of collaborative innovation in advancing a circular economy for polymers, plastics, and polyurethanes. She highlighted that partnering with Fiori Group strengthens Dow's dedication to a sustainable future for the automotive industry. Leveraging advanced materials and Fiori Group's expertise in enhancing recycled content from end-of-life vehicles, they are making significant strides in this crucial sector of growth.

As part of its sustainability strategy, Dow is placing greater emphasis on innovative sustainable solutions, including new technologies for mechanical and chemical recycling of materials currently deemed waste. The collaboration between Dow and Fiori Group will introduce an automotive and mobility recycling program, incorporating the Dow Renuva™ portfolio of recycled materials.
