DHL Group and Neste have deepened their collaboration with a shared focus on reducing emissions in logistics, as the global logistics giant aims for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The partnership, which will primarily leverage Neste’s renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel, is poised to drive significant advancements in decarbonizing DHL’s transportation networks.
This strengthened alliance aligns with DHL Group's interim sustainability targets for 2030, which include electrifying two-thirds of its last-mile delivery fleet and ensuring more than 30% of its fuel consumption comes from sustainable sources. Neste, a leading producer of renewable fuels, will play a pivotal role in supporting DHL’s decarbonization efforts in both road and air transport. The companies have jointly committed to exploring renewable solutions across DHL’s diverse logistics operations.
A key component of the partnership involves DHL’s air transport decarbonization. Together, the companies are developing a commercial model aimed at securing 300,000 tons of neat SAF annually by 2030. This will enable DHL to meet its air transportation emission reduction targets while also setting the stage for purchasing additional SAF volumes to further reduce its carbon footprint. As the aviation sector faces increasing pressure to reduce emissions, this collaboration stands to be a game-changer in sustainable air freight.
In addition to air transport, the partnership will see Neste’s renewable diesel integrated into DHL’s Road transportation network, providing a low-carbon alternative to conventional fuels. This collaboration will allow DHL to meet its ambitious decarbonization objectives across all transportation modes, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of sustainable logistics solutions.
Yin Zou, Executive Vice President of Corporate Development at DHL Group, stated, “This agreement with Neste is a critical step toward achieving net-zero emissions logistics by 2050. Through this partnership, we can accelerate our progress and develop innovative solutions that support not only our own sustainability goals but also those of our customers.”
Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President of Commercial Renewable Products at Neste, added, “By strengthening our collaboration with DHL, we are uniquely positioned to help them lead the charge in reducing GHG emissions across the logistics sector. Our renewable fuels provide a proven, scalable solution to decarbonize both road and air transportation.”
The two companies have a long-standing history of successful collaboration, including their role in advancing the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification system. Together, they aim to continue shaping the future of sustainable logistics, driving the transition to a cleaner, more efficient transportation sector that supports global carbon reduction targets. This partnership underscores both DHL and Neste’s shared vision for a low-carbon, sustainable future in logistics.
