The partnership of Brother Industries Inc. with DHL Express marks a significant step in Brother’s efforts to lower its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Brother Industries Inc. has become the first printer manufacturing company in the Philippines to adopt DHL’s GoGreen Plus service. By leveraging DHL Express’s GoGreen Plus service and employing the book and claim methodology, Brother Industries aims to reduce its annual GHG emissions from international parcels by 30%. This collaboration underscores Brother's commitment to sustainability and contributes to broader environmental goals by enhancing the company's carbon footprint management.
DHL is committed to leading by example in sustainable logistics and aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. The GoGreen Plus service is a pivotal component of this strategy, allowing clients to reduce the GHG emissions of their international shipments through the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). SAF, derived from renewable energy sources, sustainable plants, or waste materials, offers a significant environmental advantage by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80% compared to conventional fossil-fuel-based jet fuel.
The collaboration with DHL Express supports Brother Group’s Environmental Vision 2050, which focuses on minimizing the environmental impact of its operations by cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across all activities. Brother adheres to global standards such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, EN 16258, and the Global Logistics Emissions Council Framework for accurate calculation and reporting of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, encompassing both direct and indirect emissions from its own assets and supply chain. For assessing market-based impacts, DHL Express follows the Voluntary Market Based Measures Framework for Logistics Emissions Accounting and Reporting, as outlined by the Smart Freight Centre.
Nigel Lockett, DHL Express Philippines Country Manager, stated that the GoGreen Plus service allows Brother Industries (Philippines) to cut its Scope 3 emissions, which are the indirect greenhouse gas emissions within a company’s value chain, including those from downstream transportation and distribution. Lockett expressed hope that this partnership will encourage other companies to embrace low-emission transportation solutions by utilizing sustainable aviation fuel, thereby fostering a broader adoption of environmentally friendly practices across the industry.
Wataru Shimizu, General Manager of Brother Industries (Philippines), Inc., commented that their collaboration with DHL Express underscores their commitment to minimizing the environmental impact associated with both manufacturing and logistics. This partnership aligns with their broader sustainability goals and demonstrates their dedication to advancing eco-friendly practices in their operations.
DHL Express introduced the GoGreen Plus service in 2023, offering customers the opportunity to offset the carbon footprint of their international air shipments through the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This innovative service is powered by strategic partnerships with leading SAF producers, including bp, Neste, and World Energy, ensuring a reliable and sustainable supply of SAF for customers seeking to reduce their environmental impact.
