DG Fuels LLC, based in Washington, DC, has awarded a contract to a subsidiary of Maire SPA’s Rome-based NextChem SPA. MAIRE S.p.A. has disclosed that NEXTCHEM (Sustainable Technology Solutions BU), operating via its subsidiary MyRechemical and commanding the Waste-to-Chemical sector, has entered into a licensing agreement with DG Fuels Louisiana, LLC. This contract pertains to MyRechemical's proprietary NX Circular gasification technology. This contract involves the provision of technology licensing for DG Fuels' sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production complex, currently under development on the west bank of the Mississippi River, near Moonshine, Louisiana, in St. James Parish.

Following the successful completion of the process design package in December 2023, NEXTCHEM has been chosen to license its proprietary technology for a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) plant in Louisiana. Scheduled to be operational by 2028, the plant will produce up to 450 million liters of SAF annually, positioning it as one of the largest initiatives of its kind worldwide. This significant development underscores NEXTCHEM's leading role in advancing sustainable fuel technologies and highlights Louisiana's growing importance in the global push towards cleaner aviation fuels. The project is set to make a substantial impact on reducing aviation's carbon footprint.

This sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production facility, currently under construction in St. James Parish, Louisiana, is projected to commence operations in 2028. Once operational, it will have the capacity to produce 450 million liters of SAF each year. This SAF will be derived from residual biomass and a small portion of municipal waste. MyRechemical has been selected as the technology licensor for the gasification and gas treatment units, which will process 1 million tons of bagasse and sugar cane trash and pulp, representing the initial phase of SAF production.

The licensing agreement outlines that MyRechemical will furnish exclusive equipment for the gasification package, offering the flexibility to adopt a modular methodology to mitigate on-site uncertainties. Additionally, MyRechemical will deliver the requisite technical services as part of the arrangement. This project aligns with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Fuels & Products Shot initiative, which aims to decarbonize the aviation sector by advancing the industrial production of SAF. Furthermore, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) derived from biomass or waste resources meets the criteria set forth by the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This accreditation aids airlines in fulfilling their carbon offsetting obligations, contributing to global efforts to mitigate carbon emissions in the aviation sector.

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, highlighted that this significant award underscores the dependability of MAIRE's technologies and reinforces its position as a crucial enabler of industry decarbonization through circular solutions. He emphasized the importance of MAIRE's role in the strategic U.S. market and globally, as the company continues to drive advancements in sustainable and circular technologies to reduce carbon emissions across industries.

DG Fuels Louisiana, a subsidiary of DG Fuels, specializes in renewable hydrogen and biogenic-based, synthetic low-emission aviation fuel.
