Dairen Chemical, based in Taiwan, successfully resumed the production of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) in Mailiao on December 11, thereby following an unplanned shutdown for necessary repairs. This operational hiatus began on September 11, impacting a facility with an annual VAM production capacity of 350 thousand tons. The temporary closure was essential for addressing maintenance requirements to ensure the facility's efficiency and safety.

Earlier in the year, on April 10, Dairen Chemical had temporarily halted production at Plant No. 1, dedicated to vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) production in Mailiao, Taiwan. The maintenance activities at this particular plant, which boasts an annual capacity of 300 thousand tons of VAM, spanned one month, contributing to the overall operational reliability of the facility.

Vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) holds significance as a primary raw material in the production of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA). EVA, in turn, plays a crucial role in various industries, including the manufacturing of flexible packaging, footwear, and adhesive materials.

In terms of global trade dynamics, the import figures of EVA surged by 12.72%, reaching 4.66 thousand tons compared to 4.13 thousand tons in the corresponding month of the previous year. This positive trend extended through the first eight months of the year, with EVA imports to the Russian Federation experiencing a 13.57% increase, totaling 31.06 thousand tons compared to 27.35 thousand tons during the same period in 2022.

Dairen Chemical, a joint venture between Chang Chun Group (comprising Chang Chun Petrochemical and Chang Chun Plastics) and Nan Pao Resins, holds a strategic position in the supply chain. The company provides essential inputs to its "parent" companies, thereby supporting their subsequent production of polyvinyl acetate.

It is worth noting that the initial licensing for the first plant dedicated to VAM production, with an annual capacity of 85 thousand tons, was granted by Bayer AG, a renowned German multinational. This historical connection underscores Dairen Chemical's longstanding commitment to industry standards and quality, positioning it as a key player in the production and supply of essential chemical components.

The successful resumption of VAM production at Dairen Chemical's Mailiao facility signifies not only the company's resilience but also its dedication to maintaining a robust and reliable production infrastructure. As a crucial player in the supply chain for EVA production, Dairen Chemical's operational updates have broader implications for industries reliant on these chemical inputs, further highlighting the interconnected nature of the global chemical and polymer market.
