Cyient, a global Intelligent Engineering solutions company, announced on April 15 that it has been awarded a contract by Green H Bodø to provide comprehensive engineering services for its pioneering green hydrogen production and distribution facility in Langstranda, Bodø, Norway. The project is a joint venture between GreenH, a Norwegian green hydrogen infrastructure developer, and Luxcara, a leading European renewable energy asset manager based in Germany.

The Bodø project is a crucial development in Norway's ambitious renewable energy strategy, with a strong focus on supplying green hydrogen to decarbonize the maritime sector and heavy transport industries. The state-of-the-art hydrogen facility has already commenced civil construction in the fall of 2024 and is slated to supply green hydrogen fuel under a long-term agreement with Torghatten Nord AS. This agreement will fuel the Vestfjorden ferries.

Under the newly awarded contract, Cyient will provide extensive owner’s engineering and detailed plant engineering services for the entire hydrogen production and distribution facility. Leveraging its deep-rooted expertise and proven track record in green and renewable energy engineering, Cyient will be instrumental in optimizing project delivery and enhancing operational efficiency throughout the lifecycle of this strategically important project.

Cyient's scope of work will encompass a wide range of critical engineering activities. This includes detailed plant design, process optimization, equipment specification, safety assessments, and overall project management support. The company's focus will be on delivering a cost-effective and efficient balance of plant design, drawing upon its extensive experience in similar large-scale energy infrastructure projects globally.

Espen Lied, Chief Operating Officer of GreenH, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to partner with Cyient to realize our green hydrogen vision in Bodø. Cyient’s specialized engineering capabilities will be invaluable as we finalize the detailed engineering of our hydrogen plant. Their expertise will provide the essential foundation for the procurement, construction, and installation of our inaugural facility dedicated to the production and direct bunkering of green hydrogen.”

Echoing this sentiment, Espen Berg, Managing Director of Cyient Norway, highlighted the significance of the project in the global energy transition. “Green or clean hydrogen is undeniably a game-changer in the world’s energy transition towards sustainable fuels, recognized for its efficiency as an energy carrier. We are immensely proud and delighted to have secured this substantial order for the engineering delivery of what will be the world’s first-of-its-kind green hydrogen production facility specifically designed for maritime transport. Based on our strong history of successfully implementing efficient and cost-effective balance of plant designs across numerous projects, we are confident in our ability to assist GreenH and Luxcara in making this prestigious hydrogen project a resounding success.”
