CNOOC Limited and 80883 (RMB Counter) has officially announced that the Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield Development Project has commenced production in the Pearl River Mouth Basin, located in the South China Sea. The project is situated at an average water depth of approximately 110 meters, and it represents a significant advancement in CNOOC's offshore oil and gas development. Notably, this is the company's first deep buried hill reservoir development project in the South China Sea, showcasing their commitment to advancing exploration and production capabilities in challenging offshore environments.

The Huizhou 26-6 project features several innovative elements, including the construction of China’s first intelligent offshore drilling production platform, designed to facilitate more efficient and sustainable extraction of offshore resources. This intelligent platform uses state-of-the-art technology to optimize production processes and ensure enhanced operational safety and efficiency. Along with the intelligent drilling platform, the project utilizes the "NAN HAI FEN JIN" FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading unit), which has been adaptively modified to meet the unique needs of this development.

In terms of scale, the Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield Development Project includes the installation of 19 development wells, which are strategically planned to optimize oil and gas production. These wells consist of 2 oil production wells and 17 gas production wells, all of which are designed to access and extract valuable resources from the deep-water reservoir. The expected peak production rate for the project is approximately 20,600 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2027, making it a key contributor to CNOOC’s production capacity in the South China Sea. The primary products derived from the field will be light crude oil and natural gas, which are essential resources to meet China’s growing energy demand.

CNOOC’s adoption of cutting-edge technologies for this project is a testament to its leadership in the offshore oil and gas industry. The deployment of intelligent systems and advanced platforms will allow for more sustainable resource management and improved operational performance. These technological advancements not only help optimize the extraction of resources but also contribute to the company’s broader sustainability goals by reducing the environmental impact of its operations.

Beyond the technological and operational advancements, the Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield Development Project is expected to have significant socio-economic benefits for the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. As a vital energy development project, it will contribute to the region’s economic growth, job creation, and energy security, playing a crucial role in meeting the area’s growing energy demands. Additionally, the project supports the region’s broader goals of advancing industrial and infrastructural development, aligning with national strategies to enhance energy production capabilities and bolster economic development.

Overall, the Huizhou 26-6 Oilfield Development Project is a major achievement for CNOOC Limited, combining cutting-edge technology with a focus on sustainability and regional economic growth. The project not only reinforces CNOOC’s position as a leader in offshore energy production but also highlights its commitment to contributing to the long-term energy security and development of the South China Sea and the broader Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
