CNOOC has announced the start of production at the Dongfang 29-1 Gas Field Development Project, a key offshore initiative located in the Yinggehai Basin. Situated in an area with an average water depth of approximately 68 meters, the project represents a significant advancement in utilizing offshore natural gas resources. The development infrastructure includes a newly constructed unmanned wellhead platform and a submarine pipeline. A total of six development wells are planned for commissioning, with the project expected to reach its peak production capacity of 38 million cubic feet of natural gas per day by 2025.

The unmanned wellhead platform has been built using a standardized and integrated design approach. This has optimized the layout of the equipment to maximize the utilization of platform space while significantly reducing project investment costs. Gas extracted from the wells will be transported via the submarine pipeline to the existing facilities at the Dongfang gas fields for processing, further enhancing the operational efficiency of the field.

In recent years, CNOOC Limited has been actively exploring and tapping the resource potential of the Yinggehai-Qiongdongnan Basin. By leveraging existing production facilities, the company has been able to reduce the development costs associated with new projects, demonstrating a cost-effective and resource-efficient approach. The Dongfang 29-1 project builds on these efforts and is expected to further enhance the production capacity of the Dongfang gas fields.

The offshore gas fields operated by CNOOC around Hainan Island play a critical role in providing clean, reliable, and stable energy to the region. The Dongfang 29-1 Gas Field Development Project is aligned with the company’s broader strategy to meet growing energy demands through sustainable natural gas production. The initiative also supports the transition to cleaner energy sources, reinforcing CNOOC’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

CNOOC Limited holds a 100% ownership stake in the Dongfang 29-1 project and serves as the sole operator. This emphasizes the company’s leadership in offshore energy development and its dedication to enhancing China’s energy security. The commissioning of Dongfang 29-1 not only expands the company’s offshore gas production portfolio but also reflects its ability to integrate advanced technology and innovative designs to achieve operational excellence.

By unlocking the potential of the Yinggehai Basin and optimizing existing infrastructure, CNOOC continues to drive advancements in offshore energy production. The Dongfang 29-1 project is a testament to the company’s strategic vision of delivering sustainable energy solutions while reducing costs and maintaining high environmental standards. This milestone further strengthens CNOOC’s position as a leader in the global natural gas industry.
