Worley has been granted an agreement by Cerilon GTL ND Inc. for the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase of a gas-to-liquids (GTL) project in North Dakota, USA.

Cerilon plans to establish a gas to-liquids (GTL) facility aimed at converting natural gas into approximately 3,816m3 (24,000 barrels) per day of distinctive, high-performance synthetic products, including Group III+ base oils, ultra-low sulfur diesel, and naphtha. Notably, this project marks the first globally to integrate carbon capture and sequestration at a commercial scale while providing domestic production facilities for base oils, which are predominantly imported. Worley intends to employ a 'design one, build many' approach for this project, aligning with its definition of sustainability-related work.

Worley is in the final stages of the pre-FEED phase for this project. As per the agreement, services for the FEED phase will be rendered through its Calgary offices, with additional support from offices worldwide, including the Global Integrated Delivery (GID) teams.

"We anticipate further assisting Cerilon in the production of low-carbon products and energy, aligning with our mission to foster a more sustainable world," stated Chris Ashton, CEO of Worley.

Cerilon stands as a prominent player in the energy transition, committed to providing sustainable, lasting value to stakeholders, partners, and communities. The company specializes in the development and operation of facilities geared towards advancing the green transition. Cerilon offers top-tier project management services and employs cutting-edge integrated digital operations technologies to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in its endeavors.

Cerilon's corporate strategy begins with establishing a single GTL facility that can be replicated in various locations for increased efficiency and enhanced stakeholder benefits. Potential greenfield project sites include regions such as the Southeast United States and Western Canada, along with expansion opportunities in the Middle East and Africa. These GTL facilities by Cerilon produce high-quality, environmentally-friendly transportation fuels, synthetic base oils, and specialized products. With extensive industry experience, Cerilon's leaders possess expertise in project management, technology, engineering, automation, construction, and operations. Cerilon develops and operates cutting-edge GTL and other energy and chemical production facilities, employing Carbon Capture and Sequestration to reduce environmental impact.

The upcoming GTL North Dakota marks the inaugural Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) plant in North America and globally as the premier GTL facility with a commercial carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) element. Situated near Trenton, N.D., the facility, with a capacity of 24,000 barrels per day, will utilize natural gas, which would otherwise be vented or flared, to yield high-value products. These include clean-burning transportation fuels, synthetic base oils, and specialized items. GTL North Dakota represents an environmentally conscious energy solution, introducing new technologies, business prospects, and quality employment opportunities.
