In a significant move to solidify trade relations and showcase its burgeoning agribusiness sector, a high-level Brazilian delegation has embarked on a crucial mission to the UAE. Led by Vice-Minister Iraja Rezende de Lacerda of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), the delegation’s visit underscores the growing importance of the UAE as a key partner in Brazil’s agricultural export strategy. This mission isn’t just about trade; it’s about forging a strategic alliance centered on food security.
The timing of the visit couldn't be more opportune. The UAE has rapidly ascended to become Brazil’s sixth-largest importer of agricultural products in 2024, a testament to the strengthening bonds between the two nations. This burgeoning partnership is particularly vital for the UAE, which prioritizes food security as a national imperative. Brazil, with its vast agricultural resources and commitment to sustainable production, is emerging as a critical player in fulfilling this need.
Adding further significance, the delegation’s visit coincides with the prestigious Gulfood 2025 exhibition in Dubai. This prominent event provides a global platform for Brazil to showcase the richness and diversity of its agricultural sector, from established exports like beef, sugar, and ethanol to exciting new prospects like tropical fruits, which are gaining considerable traction in the UAE market.
Luis Renato de Alcantara Rua, Secretary of Commerce and International Relations, emphasized the mission’s core objective in an exclusive statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM). He highlighted the remarkable 45% surge in Brazilian agricultural exports to the UAE from 2023 to 2024, signalling the immense potential for further expansion. The delegation’s focus extends beyond simply increasing export volumes; they are actively seeking to diversify the trade basket, exploring new avenues for collaboration and mutual benefit.
For the UAE, Brazil’s reliability as a consistent and high-quality agricultural supplier is paramount. The impressive figures speak for themselves: Brazilian meat exports alone reached USD 1.59 billion, complemented by USD 1.14 billion in sugar and ethanol exports. “The UAE already trusts Brazil as a key supplier,” Rua affirmed. “They know they can count on us for consistent, high-quality agricultural products.”
The convergence of the Brazilian delegation’s visit, Gulfood 2025, and the burgeoning trade relationship signals a promising future for Brazil-UAE cooperation. This strategic partnership is not only strengthening food security in the region but also fostering a deeper understanding and collaboration between two dynamic nations. The seeds of a robust and sustainable agricultural partnership have been sown, and the harvest promises to be bountiful.
