Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), in collaboration with Hitachi Energy India Limited (HEIL), has successfully secured a significant transmission project awarded by Adani Energy Solutions Limited. The project, initiated through a Letter of Intent by Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited, a special-purpose vehicle under Adani, focuses on the design and execution of a High Voltage Direct Current link and the development of associated AC substations.
The primary objective of the project is to facilitate the transmission of renewable energy from the Bhadla III solar park in Rajasthan to Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh. This development plays a crucial role in India’s efforts to enhance its renewable energy transmission infrastructure, enabling cleaner power to reach areas with high demand.
As part of the agreement, BHEL and HEIL will design and establish two HVDC Line-Commutated Converter (LCC) terminal stations at Bhadla III and Fatehpur. These stations will be equipped with advanced technologies to ensure efficient long-distance transmission of renewable energy. The project also includes the construction of associated AC substations to integrate the new transmission system into India’s existing grid.
The adoption of HVDC technology offers significant advantages, such as reducing transmission losses and stabilizing power delivery, especially for renewable energy that is often generated far from consumption centers. These innovations are expected to be key in addressing challenges such as balancing energy supply and demand, as well as managing the variability of solar power generation.
Set to be completed by 2030, the project will contribute substantially to India’s renewable energy ambitions, helping to meet the growing demand for clean energy. The development is in line with the government’s focus on sustainable and reliable power solutions. BHEL and HEIL’s involvement further strengthens their leadership in energy infrastructure, particularly in the realm of advanced, large-scale projects that will shape the country’s green energy future.
The formal contract for the project is expected to be executed in the coming months. Upon its completion, the transmission link will play a pivotal role in enhancing India’s energy security, integrating renewable resources into the national grid, and advancing the country’s clean energy goals. This collaboration between BHEL, HEIL, and Adani Energy Solutions is a critical step forward in building a robust, sustainable energy infrastructure in India.
