Beach Energy has successfully commenced production from the Thylacine West gas project off the coast of Australia by connecting two new development wells to the onshore Otway Gas Plant. Positioned approximately 70 kilometers south of Port Campbell, these wells are located in waters around 100 meters deep. The field connects to the broader Thylacine subsea network through a 4.2-kilometer, eight-inch flowline, efficiently transporting the gas onshore for processing.

This achievement, according to Beach Energy’s CEO, Brett Woods, represents the culmination of the largest offshore drilling and development initiative ever undertaken in the Otway Basin. "The Thylacine West development wells have significantly enhanced the Otway Gas Plant’s production capability," said Woods. Given that the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has predicted potential gas supply shortfalls on the East Coast in the near future, Thylacine West is well-positioned to be a timely and critical source of gas supply for Beach’s clients and for domestic markets.

Woods highlighted that the Thylacine West project is a key component of Beach Energy’s broader growth objectives. He emphasized the importance of this project in supporting Australia’s energy needs at a time of increasing demand and limited supply. "This project is a vital step towards achieving Beach’s short-term growth plans," Woods noted, recognizing the collaboration of the team members, contractors, and stakeholders who contributed to the project’s safe and successful completion.

The initiation of gas flow from Thylacine West strengthens Beach Energy’s capacity to provide additional gas supply to meet the rising demand on Australia’s East Coast. The development aligns with Beach’s commitment to expanding domestic energy resources, reinforcing its position as a major contributor to Australia’s gas supply landscape. This project not only boosts the Otway Gas Plant’s output but also enhances Beach Energy’s ability to support the country’s growing energy needs in a responsible and sustainable manner.

In addition, the Thylacine West gas project underscores Beach Energy’s focus on delivering long-term value and energy security to its stakeholders and customers. As the company continues to implement its growth and development plans, Thylacine West marks a significant milestone in Beach’s expansion in the Otway Basin, setting a strong foundation for future offshore developments.

Beach Energy, an ASX-listed oil and gas exploration and production company, is a leading Australian pioneer headquartered in Adelaide, South Australia.
