BASF has announced the commercial introduction of Fourtiva™, a cutting-edge Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst designed for gasoil and mild resid feedstock. Incorporating BASF’s latest Advanced Innovative Matrix (AIM) and Multiple Frameworks Topology (MFT) technologies, Fourtiva offers an optimized catalyst design that enhances butylene yields and selectivity for propylene while boosting naphtha octane, LPG olefinicity, and minimizing coke and dry gas production. This advancement enables refiners to produce higher-value products, increase profitability, and lower the carbon footprint of their FCC units.

BASF’s Fourtiva catalyst integrates AIM and MFT technologies to address a wide array of performance objectives and applications. AIM technology boosts FCC catalyst performance by optimizing matrix acidity, enhancing pore size distribution, and improving matrix-zeolite interaction for better coke selectivity. The combination of AIM with MFT technology results in a distinctive catalyst that helps refiners enhance margins and offers the operational flexibility to swiftly adapt to market fluctuations.

“Commercial trials have demonstrated that Fourtiva delivers outstanding economic performance, enabling refiners to boost their profitability,” stated Detlef Ruff, Senior Vice President of Process Catalysts at BASF. “The innovative integration of BASF’s AIM and MFT technologies showcases Fourtiva as a prime example of our commitment to adding significant value for our customers through creative solutions.”

"BASF remains highly responsive to our customers' needs," said Alex Attlesey, Vice President of Refining Catalysts at BASF. "Based on customer feedback, we developed a catalyst specifically to enhance butylene yields and selectivity. Fourtiva directly meets this demand by optimizing high-octane gasoline blending feedstock."
