Bahia has secured a landmark R$9 billion (approximately $1.53 billion) investment for a state-of-the-art industrial park focused on the production of green methanol, green ammonia, oxygen, and solar energy. The ambitious project, a partnership between the State Government and GoVerde Energia, is expected to generate over 24,000 indirect jobs and 210 direct positions across its three-phase implementation.

The initiative signifies a major step towards Bahia's commitment to sustainable development and the decarbonization of key industries. The agreement, formalized through a protocol of intentions signed with the Secretariat of Economic Development (SDE), outlines a substantial financial commitment. Approximately R$5.4 billion (approximately $0.91 billion) will be directed towards establishing the industrial complex in Candeias, a municipality strategically located in Bahia. An additional R$3.6 billion (approximately $0.61 billion) will be allocated for the construction of solar power plants across five municipalities within the state.

Angelo Almeida, the SDE Secretary, emphasized the strategic importance of this development, stating, "The decarbonization of supply chains is a growing demand, and Bahia, under the leadership of Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, is leading the way in seeking sustainable ways and practices in Bahia's industrial production. In the current situation on our planet, Bahia is positioning itself as a protagonist in green economy actions. We continue to attract companies aligned with this purpose and strategic geopolitical development."

The first phase of the industrial facility in Candeias is projected to have a significant production capacity, churning out 300,000 tons of green methanol and ammonia, alongside 155,000 tons of oxygen per day. Leveraging cutting-edge technology sourced from the German industry, the primary focus of this production will be on exports, particularly targeting the maritime and aviation sectors, which are actively seeking cleaner alternatives to traditional fossil fuels.

Furthermore, the development includes the establishment of a substantial solar power generation capacity, estimated to reach up to 1.5 GW per year. These solar plants will be strategically located across five municipalities in Bahia. This renewable energy generation will not only bolster the region's energy independence but also significantly strengthen Bahia's overall commitment to environmental sustainability.

Ricardo Junqueira, CEO of GoVerde Energia, highlighted Bahia's strategic advantages in attracting this significant investment. "Green methanol is a key element in decarbonizing an entire chain in the maritime and aviation sectors. Bahia has been a pioneer in this area of green fuels, and we believe that Bahia is currently one of the states that has the best conditions nationwide to develop a project of this magnitude for export and related purposes," he stated.

This multi-billion Real investment marks a significant milestone for Bahia, positioning the state at the forefront of the green energy transition in Brazil.
