Avfuel Corp., a leading independent supplier of aviation fuel and services, has announced its expansion of blended sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), comprising 30% neat SAF and 70% conventional jet fuel, across the Southeastern United States. This initiative is supported by Valero Marketing and Supply Co., a subsidiary of Valero Energy Corp., and coincides with the National Business Aviation Association’s Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), where sustainability and innovative technologies are key themes.
The supply agreement with Valero significantly enhances Avfuel's volume and geographical access to SAF, aligning with its mission to increase availability over the duration of this multi-year agreement. Avfuel aims to prioritize business aviation operations, facilitating the transition to lower-carbon transportation fuels for flight departments and other stakeholders.
The neat SAF is produced by Diamond Green Diesel LLC, a joint venture between a Valero affiliate and Darling Ingredients Inc. Utilizing the HEFA SPK feedstock pathway, this SAF is derived from lipids, such as used cooking oil, and can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional jet fuel. On a blended basis, this sustainable fuel can lower lifecycle GHG emissions by up to 24% when compared to traditional jet fuel.
Avfuel is committed to making SAF more accessible to operators in the southeastern U.S., with an initial focus on Florida. This effort underscores Avfuel’s dedication to supporting the business aviation sector in adopting SAF and contributing to net-zero emissions goals by 2050. The company is currently preparing for its first truckload delivery, expected in the coming months, which will represent a significant milestone in scaling SAF distribution and fostering its adoption within the business aviation industry.
“We are thrilled to make this announcement among our industry peers in Las Vegas, highlighting our commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship,” stated Joel Hirst, Avfuel’s senior vice president of sales. “This supply agreement exemplifies the proactive measures required to achieve the industry's sustainability objectives, offering a practical and scalable solution for operators aiming to reduce emissions without sacrificing performance.”
Attendees at NBAA-BACE are encouraged to visit Avfuel at booth 3041 to learn more about this SAF initiative and its role in promoting sustainable growth within the industry. Avfuel’s efforts aim to not only expand SAF availability but also support the broader aviation community in its transition toward a more sustainable future.
