Asyad Group has joined forces with OQ Alternative Energy and Sumitomo Corporation Middle East FZE to embark on a groundbreaking initiative aimed at establishing Oman as a global leader in low-carbon fuels for bunkering. This collaboration represents a significant advancement in promoting sustainable shipping practices and aligns with international decarbonization goals in the maritime industry. By leveraging Oman’s abundant renewable resources, the initiative seeks to transform the Sultanate into a competitive player in the global low-carbon fuel market.

To facilitate this ambitious endeavor, the group has issued a Request For Information (RFI) targeting the world’s leading shipping companies. The aim is to drive the adoption of global green logistics solutions within Oman. The initiative will also encompass a comprehensive feasibility study that examines several critical factors. These include the levelized costs of delivering low-carbon fuels, the necessary infrastructure to support such operations, and the alignment with global regulatory standards for sustainable fuels.

Initial findings from preliminary assessments indicate that Oman’s unique geographical advantages and its superior renewable energy resources position the country as a strong contender for supplying competitively priced low-carbon fuels to the international shipping industry. The insights garnered from the RFI will serve as a cornerstone for the feasibility study and will be crucial in guiding the development of a world-class low-carbon bunkering infrastructure in Oman. This development has the potential to make a lasting impact on global maritime practices, helping to foster a more sustainable shipping industry.

In alignment with Oman’s Vision 2040 and its sustainable energy strategy, the parties involved in this initiative are dedicated to leveraging the Sultanate’s abundant renewable resources to offer low-carbon fuels such as e-methanol and ammonia at competitive prices. These fuels are increasingly recognized for their potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector.

The existing bunkering facilities at the Ports of Salalah and Duqm have been earmarked as strategic sites for potential retrofitting to support low-carbon fuel operations. By upgrading these infrastructures, Oman aims to transform its ports into critical nodes on vital global trade routes. This modernization initiative not only establishes Oman as a leader in the global shift toward low-carbon shipping fuels but also strengthens the development of the country’s rapidly growing logistics sector.

Moreover, the initiative reflects a broader commitment to sustainability and innovation in Oman’s economic development. By prioritizing low-carbon fuels and modernizing its maritime infrastructure, Oman is taking significant steps to align itself with global sustainability trends and meet the evolving demands of the shipping industry. This initiative is expected to attract foreign investment and partnerships, further enhancing Oman’s reputation as a progressive player in the global logistics and energy sectors.
