Aramid fiber prices witnessed a mixed prices trend in the Asia-Pacific market in March 2025. While some regions saw an upward trend, and others witnessed some depreciation. The price trend was mainly shaped by the supply dynamics and downstream demand movements.
In the Chinese market, prices for the Aramid fiber surged during the month. This surge was mainly driven by the higher consumption levels from the major downstream segments. In March 2025, Chinese manufacturing activities expanded rapidly coupled with the rising new orders, boosting the production activities. This gave the slight relief to Chinese economy amidst the rising trade tension with the US.
Supply for the Aramid fiber remained smooth supported by the optimal operation and the balanced inventories. Though the production cost got some relief as the prices for the key feedstock PPD (para-phenylenediamine) declined by 14%, due to the over inventory following the resumption of the operation after the lunar year holiday and the sluggish exports amidst the trade uncertainties.
Demand dynamics remained robust from the major downstream sector including automotive, electronics and the aerospace manufacturing industries. The Chinese Automotive sector performed positively, car sales rose by 14.4% year-on-year in March, spurred by government-backed trade-in programs that fueled demand for the hybrid and the electric vehicles. Additionally, China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) revealed that the passenger vehicle sales reached to 1.97 million units, taking Q1 volume up by 6.1% during March 2025.
The electronics sector also followed the positive trend, marking the robust growth in the first two months of 2025, indicated by the data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Custom statistics revealed that the Chinese laptop export surged by 16.6% year-on-year basis from January to February, reaching 22.23 million units.
Further optimism for Aramid fiber demand came from the 2025 Commercial Space Conference and Exhibition, which unveiled upcoming projects in satellite development, space transportation, and advanced rocket technologies—key applications for Aramid fiber.
Meanwhile, in India, Aramid fiber prices followed a bearish trajectory, driven by declining feedstock costs and lower freight charges. Aramid fiber registered a 0.95% price drop during March, with weak domestic PPD prices dragging down local production. Additionally, falling inter-Asian container freight rates added downward pressure to Aramid fiber prices.
Aramid Fiber observed a drop of 0.95% as the prices for the feedstock PPD (para-phenylenediamine) remained weak enough in the domestic market, dragging the domestics production lower. Additionally, the falling container shipment charges added negative pressure to the Aramid fiber prices.
Supply relatively remained steady coupled with the enough inventory and smooth import. Though the demand for the Aramid Fiber remained mixed. Demand from the downstream automotive manufacturing sector was sluggish. As Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) showed that the India’s vehicle retail sales registered a 0.7% depreciation in March 2025, yearly. Despite this, demand for the Aramid Fiber remained firm in the defense and the aerospace projects, coupled with the India’s remarkable performance in defense production and the export levels.
