Anglo-Eastern, a global powerhouse in maritime training, has unveiled a groundbreaking LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas)/Ammonia bunkering station skid at its Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy (AEMA) in Karjat, Mumbai. This pioneering facility, launched during the Anglo-Eastern 2025 Mumbai Conference in February, marks a significant leap forward in preparing maritime professionals for the industry's transition to sustainable fuels.
The newly inaugurated bunkering station skid is designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on training in the safe and efficient fuelling of LNG- and ammonia-powered vessels. Recognizing the critical need for skilled personnel in the field of alternative marine fuels, Anglo-Eastern has invested in this cutting-edge facility to bolster maritime safety standards and advance environmental objectives.
Equipped with the latest cryogenic fuelling technology and advanced safety systems, the skid creates a realistic and controlled environment for training in vital operations. These include LNG and ammonia transfer procedures, emergency response protocols, and strict adherence to regulatory compliance. By replicating real-world bunkering scenarios, the facility delivers essential education and skill development, ensuring that trainees are well-prepared to handle the complexities of these alternative fuels.
This state-of-the-art bunkering station skid is a prominent addition to Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy’s dual-fuel center of excellence. The facility was officially inaugurated by Alexander Saverys, CEO of CMB.TECH, on February 20. Mr. Saverys, in his address, emphasized the urgency of industry-wide adoption of sustainable practices, toasting to “the future of shipping” and highlighting the necessity for more companies to “step up and acknowledge the necessity to pursue such initiatives if we are to ensure adequate talent pools in the run-up to net zero emissions by 2050.”
Capt. Aalok Sharma, Group Director of Training at Anglo-Eastern, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce this LNG/Ammonia bunkering station skid as part of our commitment to shaping the future of maritime fuel safety and efficiency. As the industry transitions toward sustainable fuels, the need for well-trained professionals has never been greater. This new facility will equip maritime personnel with the knowledge and hands-on experience required to meet the challenges of LNG and ammonia bunkering.”
The training program, utilizing the newly launched bunkering station skid, is designed to benefit not only seafarers but also onshore stakeholders, providing them with a deeper understanding of the processes involved and enabling them to better support their onboard teams. This holistic approach ensures that all facets of the maritime industry are equipped to handle the shift towards greener fuels.
