Anaergia Inc, a global leader in developing and delivering sustainable waste-to-renewable energy solutions, has solidified its commitment to Italy's renewable energy future by finalizing a contract with Techbau S.p.A., a prominent Italian engineering and construction firm. This strategic partnership will see the construction of five state-of-the-art biomethane production plants across Southern Italy, injecting significant volumes of renewable gas into the national grid.
The construction of these five biomethane plants is expected to be completed and operational by mid-2026, marking a significant milestone in Italy's transition to a more sustainable energy future. Anaergia anticipates recognizing revenues exceeding C$27 million from this project.
The agreement, building upon the binding agreement announced on January 14, designates Anaergia S.r.l., the company's Italian subsidiary, as the provider of its advanced anaerobic digestion technology. Techbau will undertake the comprehensive role of general contractor, managing the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the facilities.
These plants are located to leverage the region's abundant agricultural and food processing waste, transforming these resources into valuable biomethane. Each facility is designed to process over 90,000 tons of feedstock annually, culminating in a combined production capacity of approximately 234,000 MWh of biomethane per year. This substantial output will be directly injected into Italy's gas pipeline grid, contributing significantly to the nation's decarbonization efforts and energy independence.
The project aligns seamlessly with Italy's ambitious sustainability goals, which prioritize the development of renewable energy sources and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Biomethane, produced through anaerobic digestion, offers a sustainable alternative to fossil natural gas, effectively closing the loop on organic waste management and energy production.
Anaergia's proprietary anaerobic digestion systems are at the core of these plants, renowned for their efficiency and reliability in converting organic waste into high-quality biomethane. The company's expertise in this field, honed through years of global experience, ensures the successful implementation and operation of these facilities.
"Over the years, Anaergia has developed a unique combination of experience and expertise, enabling us to effectively meet our clients' needs within efficient timeframes," stated Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia. "This contract to provide Anaergia’s proprietary technologies — proven in biomethane facilities around the world — for five facilities for Techbau marks a significant milestone in Italy’s progress toward its sustainability goals."
Techbau, with its extensive experience in large-scale engineering and construction projects, will play a crucial role in ensuring the timely and efficient completion of these plants. The company's expertise in managing complex infrastructure projects will be instrumental in delivering these critical renewable energy assets.
