Anaergia Inc, a global leader in renewable energy and resource recovery, and Capwatt Biomethane Unipessoal, Lda, a prominent sustainable energy producer, have solidified their collaboration with the signing of a binding Letter of Intent (LOI) for the development of nine cutting-edge biogas plants across Portugal, Spain, and Italy. This significant agreement builds upon the successful past cooperation between the two companies and is poised to substantially boost Europe's green energy infrastructure and accelerate the production of biomethane.
Under the terms of the LOI, Anaergia, through its Italian subsidiary Anaergia S.r.l., will be responsible for the design and construction of these nine state-of-the-art facilities. These plants will convert agro-industry waste into high-quality biomethane, a renewable natural gas that can be used for heating, electricity generation, and transportation, thereby contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing energy security in the region.
The ambitious project timeline anticipates the completion of all nine facilities within the next 30 months. This undertaking is projected to generate total revenue exceeding C$60 million for Anaergia during this period.
Each facility will be meticulously designed by Anaergia, incorporating its advanced and proprietary technologies, including high-performance anaerobic digesters. These digesters will efficiently break down organic waste in the absence of oxygen, producing biogas, which will then be upgraded into biomethane. Anaergia's expertise in process optimization will ensure the plants operate at maximum efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Sérgio Rocha, CEO of Capwatt, expressed his enthusiasm for this expanded partnership, stating, "This agreement is to lead to the nine new facilities producing a total of 556,000 MWh per year of high-quality biomethane. It underscores Capwatt’s commitment to leading the way in sustainable energy production and accelerating the energy transition. We are confident in Anaergia's proven technology and expertise to deliver these crucial projects."
Echoing this sentiment, Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia, emphasized the significance of this follow-up agreement. "This new agreement strengthens our ongoing relationship with Capwatt, building on previous collaborations where Anaergia's technical expertise and equipment were utilized at two biomethane facilities in Portugal and one in Italy. This substantial follow-up agreement showcases Capwatt’s endorsement of Anaergia’s capabilities and our proven abilities to deliver multiple projects simultaneously. We are proud to be Capwatt's partner in expanding biomethane production across Europe and contributing to a greener future."
This collaboration between Anaergia and Capwatt represents a significant step forward in the deployment of renewable energy solutions in Europe. By utilizing agro-industry waste as a feedstock, these projects not only produce clean energy but also contribute to better waste management practices and the creation of a circular economy.
