AM Green, a leading Indian green energy company, has partnered with global logistics giant DP World to establish infrastructure for the export of green ammonia and methanol. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in December 2024 formalizes the collaboration, aiming to export one million tonnes each of green ammonia and green methanol annually.

The partnership will leverage AM Green's production capacity, including output from its ambitious 1.3-GW green hydrogen-to-ammonia project in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. This project, having reached a final investment decision (FID) last summer, is poised to become one of the world’s largest green ammonia production facilities, with an annual output of one million tonnes.

The scope of the MOU extends beyond mere export. It encompasses the development of a comprehensive logistics and storage ecosystem. Key elements of this initiative include the development of bunkering infrastructure, with facilities planned across strategic locations in Dubai, India, and Southeast Asia to facilitate the refueling of ships with green fuels. This will be complemented by port infrastructure development, involving the expansion and modernization of port facilities at AM Green’s production sites in India to handle the export of large volumes of green ammonia and methanol. Finally, the initiative encompasses terminal development, with the establishment of dedicated terminals in key import regions, including the EU, Far East, and the UAE, to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of the green fuels.

This strategic alliance combines AM Green’s expertise in green hydrogen and ammonia production with DP World’s extensive global logistics network and port operations. The collaboration is expected to significantly contribute to the global transition towards a low-carbon economy.

“Together, we aim to play a pivotal role in enabling a low-carbon economy and advancing global sustainability goals,” stated Yuvraj Narayan, Group Deputy CEO and CFO of DP World, highlighting the shared vision of both companies.

AM Green has set an ambitious target of achieving five million tonnes of green ammonia production capacity by 2030. The Kakinada project represents a major step towards achieving this goal and solidifies India's position as a key player in the emerging green fuels market. The partnership with DP World is crucial for realizing this ambition, providing the necessary infrastructure and logistical support to reach international markets. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the global effort to decarbonize various sectors, including shipping and industry, by providing access to clean and sustainable fuel alternatives.
