AM Green Technology and Solutions B.V., a prominent player in energy transition solutions, has announced its acquisition of Chempolis Oy and Fortum 3 B.V., marking a significant step in its commitment to innovative, technology-enabled solutions for global decarbonization. This strategic acquisition will enable AM Green to establish large-scale biorefineries that leverage various feedstocks to produce high-value green products, aimed at decarbonizing the aviation, fuels, chemicals, and other industrial sectors.
Chempolis, a leader in the processing of lignocellulosic feedstocks, boasts over 15 years of experience in research, technology development, and product innovation. Their advanced technology allows for the processing of second-generation (2G) waste feedstocks, facilitating the production of essential green chemicals such as ethanol, furfural, and pure lignin. This aligns seamlessly with AM Green’s vision of becoming a preeminent platform for industrial decarbonization.
Anil Chalamalasetty, Group Chairman of AM Green, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Chempolis, emphasizing the importance of advancing 2G lignocellulosic feedstock processing. He stated, “This highlights our commitment to develop innovative, technology-enabled solutions that establish large-scale biorefineries, producing high-value green products to support global decarbonization efforts in various sectors, including aviation and chemicals.”
The collaboration will leverage a licensing model for Chempolis’s technology, aiming to create a global ecosystem of biorefineries. This cooperative strategy is anticipated to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy on a worldwide scale. By developing large-scale biorefineries that utilize Chempolis's technology, AM Green intends to facilitate the essential processing of upstream feedstocks, which can then be transformed into downstream chemicals and fuels, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
To support this ambitious initiative, AM Green plans to invest approximately $1 billion to establish over 0.5 million tons per annum (MTPA) of Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) SAF plants by 2027, targeting the decarbonization of global airlines. This investment underscores AM Green’s determination to enhance its technological capabilities, enabling the processing of a broader array of feedstocks and the creation of valuable green products tailored for various consumer and industrial applications.
In addition to SAF, the biorefineries will focus on producing a range of other green chemicals, thus paving the way for entry into multiple green-chemical value chains across different sectors. This diversification will not only support environmental goals but also present significant economic opportunities.
With a strong R&D foundation and a commitment to innovation, AM Green is poised to play a crucial role in the ongoing global energy transition. The integration of Chempolis's technology will enhance AM Green's ability to offer sustainable solutions, reinforcing its position as a leader in the decarbonization movement.
