ALPLA, a global leader in packaging and recycling, has acquired the remaining shares from its joint venture partner Taba, completing the full integration of its Egypt-based facility. Located in 10th of Ramadan City near Cairo, the plant produces plastic bottles, preforms, and closures for the North African and Middle Eastern markets. In addition, since 2024, it has served as the central accounting service hub for the Africa, Middle East & Turkey (AMET) region.

The acquisition marks a significant step in ALPLA’s strategy to further establish its presence in North Africa. Initially founded as ALPLA TABA in Egypt eight years ago, the joint venture saw ALPLA take the majority stake before this full buyout. By acquiring Taba's shares, ALPLA completes its consolidation of the site, which has become a critical production and service hub for the region.

Javier Delgado, Regional Managing Director AMET at ALPLA, remarked, “The close cooperation with Taba has laid the foundation for our success. During our time together, we have consolidated our market-leading position. Now we are taking the next step.” ALPLA employs around 450 people at the state-of-the-art plant, where advanced production technologies, including injection blow moulding (IBM), extrusion blow moulding (EBM), and injection moulding (IM), are used to manufacture high-quality plastic products. These products cater to various industries such as food, beverages, household and beauty care, and pharmaceuticals.

The move also strengthens ALPLA’s foothold in the pharmaceutical sector, with the company now one of Egypt’s leading manufacturers of standard packaging for pharmaceutical products. Delgado credits the expertise and experience of Taba as a major factor in the successful development of ALPLA's pharmaceutical business in the region.

Despite the buyout, ALPLA and Taba will continue their collaboration. The two companies will maintain their joint venture, DEPACK, which is based in the same industrial park and focuses on producing food packaging through thermoforming technology.

As a pioneer in recycling, ALPLA has long been committed to strengthening the local circular economy. The company has been processing post-consumer recycled materials (PCR) for several years, further advancing sustainable packaging solutions in the region. Tarek Bassiouni, Regional Head of Finance & Controlling AMET at ALPLA, emphasized the growing demand for safe, affordable, and sustainable packaging solutions in North Africa and the Middle East, underscoring the role of the Egyptian facility in fulfilling this need.

ALPLA’s full acquisition of Taba’s shares was finalized on December 16, 2024. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
