Alpha HPA, a leading producer of critical metals, has commenced stage two construction on what it touts as the world’s largest high-purity alumina facility in Gladstone, UK. This ten-hectare facility builds on the success of the existing stage one operations, utilizing cutting-edge, Australian-developed process intellectual property (IP). Once completed, the facility is projected to produce over 10,000 tonnes of high-purity aluminium products annually, further strengthening the company’s position in the global market.

This expansion is set to bring significant economic benefits to the Gladstone region, including the creation of 120 permanent local jobs and 300 construction jobs. Alpha HPA's advanced process technology will enable the production of a wide range of ultra-high-purity aluminium materials. These materials are designed to be low in carbon and cost-competitive, benefiting from Gladstone’s well-established industrial infrastructure.

The facility’s process technology is focused on the extraction and purification of aluminium from industrial feedstock, ensuring that the final products meet the high standards required for use in advanced technology sectors, particularly those integral to the energy transition. To finance this ambitious stage two development, Alpha HPA has secured a A$400 million (approximately $271.18 million) debt facility from the Australian Government and raised an additional A$180 million in equity.

Rimas Kairaitis, Managing Director of Alpha HPA, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “The start of stage two construction at our Gladstone site not only underscores our commitment to innovation and excellence but also solidifies our position as a global leader in ultra-high-purity aluminium materials. We are proud to leverage our Australian-owned and developed process IP in creating a state-of-the-art facility to service high technology electronics industries that are so important in the energy transition.”

Kairaitis also highlighted the critical role of funding support in the project’s progression: “Securing extensive funding support from our shareholders and the Australian and Queensland Governments has been pivotal in moving this project forward, and we are now well-positioned to progress to full-scale production. The economic and community benefits for Gladstone will be substantial, with long-term job creation and opportunities for local businesses.”

As Alpha HPA advances with stage two construction, the company is set to make a significant impact on the global high-purity alumina market, while contributing to the economic and industrial growth of the Gladstone region. This project marks a key milestone in Alpha HPA’s journey toward becoming a leader in the production of ultra-high-purity aluminium materials, crucial for supporting the energy transition and high-tech industries worldwide.
