AkzoNobel introduces Accelshield™ 300, a high-performance internal coating for aluminum cans, enhancing safety and regulatory compliance. Beverage can manufacturers are poised to benefit from AkzoNobel's innovative approach with the launch of Accelshield™ 300, a new high-performance internal coating technology. This cutting-edge solution is free from all bisphenols, styrene, PFAS, and formaldehyde, addressing growing industry demands for safer and more sustainable materials.

Developed by AkzoNobel’s Packaging Coatings division, Accelshield™ 300 goes beyond traditional technologies by offering superior corrosion protection, flexibility, and sensory performance. This advanced coating is designed to meet the evolving needs of the beverage can industry, ensuring both product safety and quality.

Accelshield™ 300, the newest innovation in AkzoNobel's expanding range of next-generation can coatings, is specifically designed to help customers stay ahead of evolving regulations. Approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and trusted by leading beverage brands, this advanced coating is also fully compliant with both current and anticipated EU regulations that limit the use of intentionally added bisphenols, including bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol F (BPF), ensuring a safer and more sustainable future for beverage packaging.

In addition to its rapid curing capabilities, which enhance production efficiency and reduce energy costs, Accelshield 300 technology has demonstrated improved flavor performance in both laboratory and brand testing. Moreover, the coating seamlessly integrates into existing production lines, offering a significant advantage over previous solutions.

The launch of the new product comes on the heels of Accelshield™ 700, a styrene-free and bisphenol-free internal coating for beverage ends, as well as Accelstyle™ 100 and 200 overprint varnishes for two-piece aluminum beverage cans, which are free of bisphenols, styrene, and PFAS.

Chris Bradford, Marketing Director at AkzoNobel’s Industrial Coatings business, emphasized that the Accelshield 300 technology underscores the company's dedication to supporting customers in moving towards a bisphenol-free future. He highlighted that this innovative coating not only offers superior performance but also represents a more sustainable alternative. By significantly surpassing existing regulations, AkzoNobel is confident that Accelshield 300 will serve as a durable, long-term solution for the industry.

Bradford added that AkzoNobel is leveraging its expertise and experience to create safe and effective technologies that ensure uninterrupted supply and keep canning lines operational. He emphasized that the company's goal is to collaborate with industry stakeholders to shape the future, enabling them to stay ahead of industry trends and gain a competitive edge.

In conclusion, AkzoNobel's development of AccelshieldTM 300 marks a significant advancement in beverage can coatings, setting a new standard for corrosion protection, flexibility, and sensory performance. By going beyond existing technologies, the company is not only meeting current industry needs but also preparing its customers for future regulatory challenges. This innovation reflects AkzoNobel's commitment to sustainability and its role as a leader in the packaging coatings industry, offering a reliable, high-performance solution for beverage can manufacturers.
