Air Liquide Egypt and United Energy Group (UEG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on sustainable energy transition projects in Egypt. The partnership will focus on producing low-carbon ammonia using renewable hydrogen, contributing to the country’s growing role as a leader in the renewable energy sector.
With abundant renewable resources and a supportive policy environment, Egypt is well-positioned to become a global hub for clean energy. UEG, a company engaged in renewable energy projects worldwide, has identified Egypt as a strategic market and is actively building partnerships across the energy value chain. Air Liquide, leveraging its long-standing presence in Egypt and expertise in energy transition technologies, will support UEG in developing ammonia production based on renewable energy sources.
As part of the collaboration, Air Liquide will supply nitrogen for the project and work closely with UEG to develop solutions for managing the intermittency of renewable energy, ensuring a stable and competitive ammonia production process. This initiative aligns with global efforts to advance green hydrogen and ammonia production as key components of the future energy landscape.
Air Liquide has been operating in Egypt since 2002, serving various industries such as metals, glass, petrochemicals, and food and beverage. The company’s extensive experience in low-carbon production technologies will be instrumental in driving the success of this initiative.
Gu Xiaodong, Vice President and General Manager of Green Hydrogen at UEG, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating: “This collaboration with Air Liquide is a major step forward in UEG’s mission to expand green hydrogen projects in Egypt. By combining Egypt’s renewable resources with Air Liquide’s cutting-edge technologies and infrastructure, we are in a strong position to develop green ammonia production facilities in the region. We look forward to turning this vision into reality and supporting Egypt’s green hydrogen ambitions.”
Prean Chetty, General Manager of Air Liquide Egypt, highlighted the company’s commitment to Egypt’s energy transition: “This partnership marks an important milestone in advancing sustainable energy solutions in Egypt. Air Liquide is dedicated to applying its world-class technologies and expertise to support the country’s renewable energy goals and drive the transition to a low-carbon future.”
This agreement underscores the shared vision of both companies in developing large-scale renewable hydrogen and ammonia projects, reinforcing Egypt’s position as a key player in the global clean energy market.
