Accelera™ by Cummins, the zero-emissions division of Cummins Inc. [NYSE: CMI], has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GAIL (India) Limited, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) and India’s leading natural gas company. This partnership aims to advance green hydrogen technology in India by leveraging Accelera’s expertise in hydrogen generation and GAIL’s extensive natural gas infrastructure. The collaboration will focus on hydrogen production, blending, transportation, and storage while also exploring applications in key sectors such as transportation, power, and steel.
Alex Savelli, Global Commercial Leader – Electrolyzers at Accelera, emphasized the partnership's potential, stating, “Accelera’s collaboration with GAIL underscores the immense opportunities in green hydrogen and large-scale electrolysis. By combining our advanced electrolyzer technology with GAIL’s well-established energy infrastructure, we are in a strong position to accelerate green hydrogen adoption across India.”
This strategic partnership builds upon the successful commissioning of GAIL’s green hydrogen plant in Vijaipur, Madhya Pradesh, in December 2024. At this facility, Accelera supplied a 10-megawatt (MW) proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer system, consisting of two HyLYZER®-1000 electrolyzer units. These units generate 4.3 tons of green hydrogen per day, which is blended with natural gas to support GAIL’s on-site operations.
Rajeev Kumar Singhal, Director of Business Development at GAIL, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, saying, “Following the success of our Vijaipur project, this partnership with Accelera reinforces our commitment to India's National Green Hydrogen Mission. Together, we aim to develop a robust hydrogen value chain to support India’s ambitious target of producing 5 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030.”
Beyond production and blending, the collaboration will also focus on knowledge-sharing, the development of industry standards, and the exploration of new applications for green hydrogen. With hydrogen playing a crucial role in decarbonization, the partnership seeks to contribute to India's transition toward cleaner energy solutions.
Electrolyzers, powered by renewable energy, enable the production of green hydrogen, a key element in reducing carbon emissions. Accelera is a global leader in large-scale hydrogen production using PEM electrolysis, with over 600 electrolyzer units deployed worldwide. Some of its most advanced PEM electrolyzer systems include a 20MW facility in Quebec, Canada, and a 25MW system in Florida, U.S.
By combining technological innovation with GAIL’s infrastructure, this collaboration is set to accelerate India's green hydrogen ecosystem, supporting its transition to a low-carbon future.
Accelera by Cummins offers a comprehensive range of zero-emissions solutions tailored for the world’s most essential industries, enabling them to drive the transition toward a sustainable future. As a business segment of Cummins Inc., Accelera serves as both a components supplier and a system integrator, specializing in batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, e-axles, traction motors, inverters, integrated powertrain solutions, and electrolyzers. The company operates across North America, Europe, and China, supporting global decarbonization efforts.
