McDermott has been awarded an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) agreement by Abraxas Power Corporation for the Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC) project located in Central Newfoundland.

The project marks Canada's inaugural commercial green hydrogen and ammonia production facility. It will feature the development of a wind farm with up to 530 turbines, capable of generating 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of electricity, and a 150-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) installation. The facility will have the capacity to produce 165,000 tons per annum (kta) of hydrogen and 5,000 metric tons of ammonia per day.

"This agreement showcases McDermott's top-tier delivery and installation expertise, as well as the extensive range of our capabilities in the energy transition," said Rob Shaul, Senior Vice President of Low Carbon Solutions at McDermott. " Drawing on a century of experience spanning from initial concept to final completion and leveraging our integrated delivery model, we are equipped to offer Abraxas a scalable modular implementation solution aimed at achieving cost efficiencies, mitigating risks, and ensuring rigorous quality assurance."

As part of the agreement, McDermott will deliver front-end engineering design (FEED), engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) execution planning services, as well as an open book EPC cost estimate for the hydrogen production, ammonia processing, and product storage components of the project.
