Netherlands [Europe]: OCI N.V. and Linde plc recently unveiled a new partnership to provide clean Hydrogen and Nitrogen to OCI's blue Ammonia facility located in Beaumont, Texas. This is part of a long-term agreement between both companies, with Linde supplying the necessary gases to support the facility's development.
Linde is set to construct and manage a complex facility at its Gulf Coast industrial gas infrastructure, comprised of autothermal reforming with Carbon capture, in addition to a wide-scale air separation plant. This new development will provide clean Hydrogen and Nitrogen to OCI's massive 1.1-MTPA blue Ammonia plant - the first greenfield facility of this size to come online in the US.
Linde and OCI have joined forces to make a major difference in Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions. Linde will supply OCI with clean Hydrogen by sequestering 1.7 MTPA of CO2 each year, and the Hydrogen will be upgraded by OCI to produce blue Ammonia. This will dramatically reduce the Carbon footprint of customers across various industries along their value chain.
Linde and OCI have announced an approximate US$1.8 billion and US$1 billion investment respectively, with the view of doubling the current capacity of 2.2-MTPA in 2025. The new project will involve upsized utilities and available land to facilitate it.
“The Beaumont facility will allow us to build and strengthen our blue Ammonia and clean fuels platform, supplying both the United States and export market with blue Ammonia, an ideal solution to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors such as agriculture, power, and marine fuels at a competitive cost,” stated Ahmed El-Hoshy, chief executive officer of OCI. “Linde’s expertise in managing large-scale and complex engineering projects, and safely and reliably delivering industrial gases, made it a solid choice as a partner for this project.”
“Linde’s capabilities are already enabling the transition to a low-Carbon intensity economy,” stated Sanjiv Lamba, chief executive officer of Linde. “Our strategy is to support decarbonization by working with off-takers like OCI to supply low-Carbon industrial gases safely and reliably at scale. With Linde’s track record in successfully executing complex projects, its extensive pipeline network, and support from the US Inflation Reduction Act, the company is well positioned to secure many more clean energy projects.”
