H1 2023: In April 2023, Fost Plus signed an agreement with Morssinkhof Plastics Belgium for the construction of a new plastic recycling facility. Waste packaging made of polypropylene, polyethylene, and HDPE will be processed at the plant into raw materials for further use in the packaging sector. The facility will be able to recycle 40,000 tonnes per year. 24 thousand tonnes of PMD waste collected from Belgian homes will be provided to the facility by Fost Plus. The facility will be able turn HDPE bottles for milk, shampoo and conditioner, detergent, and shower gel in addition to polypropylene products including yoghurt cups, butter dishes, and ready-meal trays into raw material for packaging. When the facility will begin operating in October 2024, the facility will recycle both polyethylene (such as shampoo and milk packaging) and polypropylene packaging. In June 2023, ALPLA announced an investment of EUR 60 million in a PET and HDPE recycling facility located near Balito’s industrial region South African province of KwaZulu Natal. The plant will have a production capacity of 238 thousand tonnes for rPET (recycled PET) and 74 thousand tonnes for rHDPE (recycled HDPE). It is anticipated that construction will begin in the summer of 2023 and end in the autumn of 2024 and the facility will be recycling plastic bottles.
The global Recycled-High Density Polyethylene (R-HDPE) market has grown remarkably to reach approximately 1410 thousand tonnes in 2022 and is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 6.53% during the forecast period until 2032.
High-density polyethylene is far more durable than other plastics. Due to its sturdy internal structure, HDPE can be reused in a number of applications. Bottles, pens, picnic tables, rope, toys, decking, bike racks, plastic fencing, benches, furniture, recycling bins, and garbage cans are all common uses for recycled high-density polyethylene. HDPE is simple to recycle and can be recycled up to ten times for new plastics. Most recycling programmes accept "2" containers, however as with all recycling. One should make sure they are clean, rinsed, and dry before discarding to avoid contamination. The recommended method for creating new products is to use HDPE plastic. It lessens pollution and conserves resources including water, energy, and landfill space. A few goods that can be created with recycled HDPE brand-new wheeled trash cans and recycling bins, plastic wood, Playgrounds, picnic tables, utility pipes, bottles for antifreeze, motor oil, laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, conditioner, and shampoo, Furniture for the garden and flowerpots.
The applications of recycled HDPE (R-HDPE) is in food-grade HDPE packaging and non- food-grade HDPE packaging. Shampoo bottles, chemical and cosmetic containers, recycling bins and shopping bags, beverage bottles, bottle caps, milk jugs, and many more items are among the packaging usually created from HDPE regrind. Non-food bottles is the main driver of the R-HDPE market. Additionally, HDPE recycled materials can be used for non-food applications like cable and wire covers. Pipe systems are widely used application for recycled HDPE. Furthermore, recycled HDPE is great for making hard shells like computer cases because it is quite strong. Additionally, recycled HDPE can be used to make technical fibres for a variety of non-food uses, including indoor and outdoor furniture, flower pots, floor tiles, toys and plastic timber. Due to these reasons, the Recycled-High Density Polyethylene (R-HDPE) market is likely to reach approximately 2500 thousand tonnes by 2032.
Based on demand across the globe, the Asia Pacific is reported to be the biggest consumer of the Recycled-High Density Polyethylene (R-HDPE) market. In 2022, APAC captured roughly 42% of the market. The widespread usage of HDPE pipes in agriculture for rural irrigation, fire system supply lines, and drainage pipes as these pipes are flexible and long-lasting is attributed to the rising demand for high-density polyethylene in the Asia Pacific region. Additionally, the market is growing due to the increased use of HDPE in the food and beverage industry to create plastic caps, and containers. The market is also predicted to benefit from the growing demand for HDPE pipes in countries like India. The presence of several companies producing plastic goods all throughout China is another factor that will most likely fuel the r-hdpe market during the anticipated future.
Based on end-uses, the global Recycled-High Density Polyethylene (R-HDPE) market is segregated into Non-food bottles, Pipe, HDPE Lumber & Decking, Lawn & Garden products, and Others. Non-food bottles is dominating the global Recycled-High Density Polyethylene (R-HDPE) market.
Major players in the production of Global Recycled-High Density Polyethylene (R-HDPE) are Envision Plastics, ALPLA Group, Visy Recycling Europe Ltd, Quality Circular Polymers, EcoBlue Ltd., Biffa Polymers, Bright Green Plastics, PlasRecycle Ltd., Veolia Huafei Group, Graham Recycling Company, and Others.
