Wood, a leading global consulting and engineering firm, has secured a three-year contract to operate and maintain the Freepoint Eco-Systems facility located in Hebron, Ohio. This state-of-the-art plant, covering 25 acres and featuring a 260,000 square foot warehouse, is recognized as one of the largest advanced recycling facilities globally. The facility will utilize advanced pyrolysis recycling technology to transform approximately 90,000 tons of end-of-life plastics into a valuable petrochemical feedstock, known as pyrolysis oil, through a specialized depolymerization process. This feedstock is crucial for producing various applications, including food-grade and medical-grade plastic packaging.

As part of this contract, Wood will manage all operations and maintenance at the facility, creating job opportunities for over 100 individuals. The company will assist Freepoint Eco-Systems in achieving operational readiness, focusing on developing comprehensive safety and maintenance management systems. Jess Stanley, President of Operations Americas at Wood, expressed enthusiasm about this award, stating, “This is an exciting opportunity that aligns with our growth strategy and sustainability objectives, promoting the circular economy through the recycling of end-of-life plastics.” He highlighted that this contract establishes a new operational footprint in Ohio and emphasizes Wood's commitment to delivering operational excellence at this world-class facility.

Freepoint Eco-Systems is dedicated to fostering renewable solutions for plastic waste, actively contributing to a circular economy through its advanced recycling initiatives. The facility aims to significantly reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to the impact of taking 15,000 cars off the road. This contract not only represents a strategic growth opportunity within the expanding plastics recycling market but also underscores Wood’s commitment to assisting clients in decarbonizing their operations and developing sustainable solutions.

Through this partnership, Wood aims to implement its proven practices and processes to enhance the operational capabilities of Freepoint Eco-Systems. This initiative reflects a broader trend towards sustainable waste management practices and reinforces the importance of advanced recycling technologies in addressing the global plastic waste crisis. Overall, this collaboration marks a significant step toward advancing sustainability and operational efficiency in the plastics recycling industry.

Wood is engaged in a diverse range of sectors, including energy, carbon capture, distribution and storage, hydrogen, oil and gas (both upstream and midstream), petrochemicals and refining, power, renewables, materials, chemicals, life sciences, manufacturing, and minerals and metals. The company focuses on decarbonization, digitalization, energy security, and the energy transition, delivering innovative solutions across these industries. Through its expertise, Wood is committed to driving sustainable practices and enhancing operational efficiency, supporting clients in their journey towards a greener and more resilient future.
