Wood is spearheading three significant Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) initiatives on the Norwegian Continental Shelf: Trudvang, Luna, and Havstjerne. These projects have successfully passed technical feasibility assessments and are poised to offer substantial environmental benefits. Together, they are designed to capture and store up to 21 million tonnes of CO2 per year, which equates to almost 50% of Norway’s CO2 emissions in 2023 (46.6 million tonnes). This advancement underscores Wood's commitment to mitigating climate impact and enhancing Norway’s sustainability efforts.

Wood’s thorough techno-economic evaluations have established a strong foundation for advancing sustainable CO2 transportation solutions for its CCS projects. These assessments, which gauge the economic viability of the technology, encompassed advanced flow assurance simulations, CO2 specification development, tailored subsea field designs, and pioneering marine loading and offloading techniques. With these critical components in place, the projects are now poised to move forward into the next phase of development, ensuring robust and efficient CO2 storage and transport solutions.

The Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) licenses are held by Sval, Storegga, and Vår Energi (Trudvang); Wintershall Dea and Total (Luna); and Wintershall Dea and Altera (Havstjerne). Wood’s team of technical experts from Stavanger, Sandefjord, Galway, Aberdeen, and Reading are collaborating to execute these projects. Their combined efforts are focused on delivering comprehensive solutions for each license, leveraging their specialized knowledge and experience.

With over 30 years in the CCS sector and having completed more than 200 carbon capture studies globally, Wood boasts a strong track record in executing CCS solutions across the entire value chain, from capture to injection. This extensive experience and expertise make Wood a reliable partner in the worldwide initiative to mitigate carbon emissions, underscoring their role as a leading provider in the industry.
