On 22 April 2024, Westlake Corporation (NYSE: WLK) disclosed that Westlake Epoxy is set to unveil a range of new epoxy products with reduced yellowing at the upcoming American Coatings Show 2024 in Indianapolis, Indiana (USA), scheduled from April 30 to May 2, 2024.
The Deep Pour Lower Yellowing Epoxy System combines Epoxy Research Resin RSL-4710 with Research Curing Agent RSC-4731. This two-part epoxy/amine system is designed for prolonged setting times and reduced exotherm temperatures. It boasts excellent air release and enhanced color retention, even when exposed to direct sunlight.
Dan Weinmann, Business Development Manager - Epoxy, Americas, commented, "The Deep Pour Lower Yellowing Epoxy System facilitates simpler application, allowing for pours of up to 4 inches in a single application. Unlike other systems, this one doesn't rely on additives to enhance yellowing resistance. Instead, the resin and curing agent blend incorporates enhanced light stability directly into the cured epoxy thermoset structure."
Westlake Epoxy is unveiling a specialized ultra-low yellowing cycloaliphatic amine curing agent designed specifically for decorative floor coatings. Curing Agent RSC-4729 offers enhanced yellowing resistance and superior gloss retention when paired with standard Bis-A or Bis-F epoxy resins. For optimal results, combine RSC-4729 with an aliphatic epoxy resin, such as EPONEX™ Resin 1510. In a transparent enamel, following 600 hours of QUV-A exposure, the aliphatic epoxy system demonstrated a Delta E of 6 units and maintained gloss retention exceeding 85% (measured at a 60-degree gloss angle).
