The global Glyoxylic Acid market experienced mixed market trends during the first half of April 2025. The market experienced a modest downturn in the Asian region during the review period attributed to surplus availability of material in the regional market. However, the market remained stable in the west.
In the Chinese market, the prices of Glyoxylic Acid underwent a significant dip in the Glyoxylic Acid prices. This price decline is largely attributed to a series of factors, primarily persistently weak international demand for Glyoxylic Acid. Further, the imposition of anti-dumping duties by European authorities led to a notable decline in demand from the continent, while high tariffs imposed by North American governments further constrained purchasing. Collectively, these factors contributed to continually weak international demand. Domestically, although digital sales channels continued to gain traction—with e-commerce platforms registering stronger performance—overall sales remained below expectations.
To add to this, inventories of Glyoxylic Acid in the domestic market continue to build up. Manufacturing units continue to operate at a healthy rate meanwhile persistent port congestion, particularly at Shanghai, Ningbo, and Bohai ports, worsened the supply glut, as weather-related disruptions kept vessel queues high and delayed product offloading. Although some North Asian ports saw minor improvements, congestion in North and Central China remained severe. The combination of surplus inventories, weak consumption, and logistical challenges pressured sellers to lower prices further to clear stock and maintain cash flow.
On the other hand, the Glyoxylic Acid prices remained stable in the western market attributed to a more closely matched gap between demand and supply. WeylChem Lamotte SAS, a major manufacturer of Glyoxylic Acid in the region, maintained strong operating rates, thereby supporting stable supply conditions. Notably, WeylChem Lamotte played a pivotal role in initiating the anti-dumping investigation for Chinese Glyoxylic Acid imports by raising alarms about unfair trade practices with European authorities. This action contributed to the following imposition of anti-dumping duties aimed at protecting domestic producers from market distortions.
In terms of demand with the approaching of summers , a notable improvement in the use of glyoxylic acid–based products such as sunscreens and lotions formulated to mitigate heat-related skin concerns was observed.
According to ChemAnalyst, a potential shift towards northwards direction in global Glyoxylic Acid prices is anticipated in the coming months. This shift can be influenced by ongoing supply chain disturbances and firm demand from downstream industries, particularly cosmetics and personal care, in face of the approaching summer season demand. These factors are expected to exert upward pressure on prices.
