Volt Carbon Technologies, known as "Volt Carbon," proudly announces a significant achievement in its lithium-ion battery development, thereby surpassing the 2023 target milestone of 500 cycles. The latest test outcomes, unveiled by the company, showcase the progress made at Solid Ultrabattery's Guelph facility throughout 2023, building on the results shared on July 24, 2023.

The breakthrough results stem from Volt Carbon's proprietary technology employed in the production of battery pouch cells. This technology integrates composite electrolytes to enhance cycle life and battery stability. The cells crafted using the company's custom electrolytes and membranes, along with the high-energy cathode NMC811 and lithium metal, yield advanced lithium-metal battery cells. Notably, the incorporation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as the conductive material in the NMC811 cathode plays a pivotal role in achieving an improved cycle life exceeding 500 cycles. Figure 1 illustrates a retention capacity of 87.7% at the 514th cycle. Additionally, the use of CNTs enables a reduction in the conductive material in the cathode by less than 50% compared to carbon black.

This accomplishment stands as a record for cycle life at Volt Carbon's Guelph battery plant, setting the stage for the Company's ambitious goal of surpassing 800 cycles and achieving 80% capacity in 2024 with its lithium-metal battery technology.

Operationally, Volt Carbon is actively gearing up for Phase Two, a critical stage involving the design and construction of a pilot battery line and dry room. These additions are integral to elevating the plant's manufacturing capabilities to pre-production levels, ensuring adherence to higher quality standards and transforming it into a megawatt-sized factory. The products from this pilot line are targeted at specialized consumer and industrial applications. To fund this transformative initiative, the company is actively exploring fundraising opportunities.

V-Bond Lee, the CEO and President of Volt Carbon Technologies, expressed satisfaction with the standout results, highlighting the significant performance boost achieved with the integration of CNTs. He emphasized the company's commitment to achieving the next milestones outlined in its product roadmap, targeting 800 cycles and 80% capacity in 2024.

The innovative strides made by Volt Carbon underscore its dedication to advancing lithium-metal battery technology, contributing to the evolution of energy storage solutions with enhanced efficiency, longevity, and environmental sustainability. As Volt Carbon propels towards its 2024 goals, the industry will be keenly watching the company's progress and the potential impact of its lithium-ion battery advancements on the broader landscape of energy storage technologies.
