Venator, a prominent global producer of pigments and additives, has successfully launched the Eviden Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) Platform. This achievement marks the completion of a project initiated in October 2023 and concluded in December 2024. The advanced PCF Platform fully automates the calculation of product carbon footprints across Venator's extensive portfolio, providing customers with precise data on the environmental impact of their products.
Rob Portsmouth, Executive Vice President of EHS, Sustainability, and HR at Venator, expressed his satisfaction with the successful implementation of the platform. He highlighted the positive collaboration with Atos, particularly through its Eviden business group, emphasizing the effective teamwork that contributed to the project's success.
Portsmouth stated, “The deployment of the PCF Platform is a crucial step in our sustainability efforts. This tool enables us to evaluate our product range and production network regarding CO2 emissions and adopt actionable strategies to minimize our carbon footprint. With its automation capabilities, we can access clear, transparent, and consistent PCF data, offering invaluable insights into both internal and external supply chain dependencies.”
He further explained that the platform allows Venator to accurately determine the carbon footprint of their products and effectively communicate this information to customers. This transparency supports Venator's clients in achieving their own environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives. The platform's functionality aligns with Venator's dedication to continuous improvement and sustainable practices.
The Eviden PCF Platform was developed in collaboration with BASF and is grounded in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, ensuring comprehensive carbon footprint calculations from cradle-to-gate. This method adheres to ISO14067:2018 standards, which build on ISO 14040:2006 and ISO 14044:2006 principles for product carbon footprint measurement.
Both Venator and Atos/Eviden, part of the Atos Group, consider the PCF Platform a groundbreaking innovation for the chemical industry. The tool is expected to play a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing net-zero targets. By leveraging digital technology, the platform effectively monitors and manages carbon emissions throughout the entire supply chain.
This advancement underscores the potential for digital solutions to enhance sustainability efforts in the chemical sector. With its ability to generate reliable carbon footprint data and foster improved supply chain transparency, the Eviden PCF Platform is a key enabler in supporting both Venator and its customers in their journey toward a greener future.
