VA Tech WABAG, a prominent player in the water treatment industry, has secured a significant order for the construction of a large sewage treatment plant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The contract, awarded by Al Haer Environmental Services Company, is part of a consortium that includes Miahona Company (lead), Marafiq, and N.V. Besix S.A. The project involves the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of  an Independent Sewage Treatment Plant (ISTP), which will play a key role in addressing the growing demand for wastewater treatment in the Kingdom.

The project is being developed under the umbrella of the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC), which is the principal off-taker for water and wastewater projects across the Kingdom. This new sewage treatment facility will be designed to handle a substantial amount of wastewater, significantly increasing Riyadh’s treatment capacity. The plant will also include necessary infrastructure, such as connections to outfall delivery facilities, to ensure the efficient discharge of treated water.

This ISTP is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 initiative, which focuses on improving the quality of life for residents and ensuring the sustainability of key public services such as water and wastewater treatment. Vision 2030 aims to modernize the country’s infrastructure, particularly in response to rapid urbanization and the need for more advanced and reliable sewage treatment systems. By investing in such large-scale projects, Saudi Arabia is striving to enhance its environmental sustainability and bolster the overall standard of living.

VA Tech WABAG’s latest success in Saudi Arabia is a key milestone for the company, reinforcing its leadership in the water treatment sector. The company’s involvement in high-profile projects in the Kingdom reflects its growing influence and expertise in executing large-scale infrastructure projects. In addition to this ISTP project, VA Tech WABAG had previously secured another important order for an industrial wastewater treatment plant at the Ras Tanura Refinery Complex, also in Saudi Arabia.

The growing demand for sewage treatment and wastewater management in Saudi Arabia aligns with the country's Vision 2030 goals. The Kingdom is focusing on expanding its water and wastewater infrastructure, particularly in major urban centres like Riyadh, where population growth and increasing industrial activity are driving up the need for advanced water treatment solutions. VA Tech WABAG’s ability to deliver sophisticated and large-scale projects positions it as a key partner in the country’s ongoing efforts to address its water challenges.

Sivakumar V, Regional Head of Sales and Marketing at VA Tech WABAG, noted that this latest order is a significant achievement for the company in Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that the project further strengthens VA Tech WABAG’s leadership position in the Middle East and highlights its capability to deliver cutting-edge water and wastewater treatment technologies that support the region's growth and sustainability objectives.

With Saudi Arabia’s continued investment in water infrastructure as part of its long-term development plans, VA Tech WABAG is well-positioned to continue contributing to the Kingdom’s ambitious water treatment projects, playing a pivotal role in ensuring the availability of high-quality wastewater management solutions.
