Trafigura Group Pte Ltd, a global leader in the trading and logistics of commodities, has successfully completed the acquisition of Greenergy's European and Canadian supply businesses. Greenergy, a prominent UK-based supplier of road fuels and a significant European biodiesel producer, previously owned these businesses through Brookfield Asset Management and its listed affiliate, Brookfield Business Partners. This strategic acquisition enhances Trafigura's portfolio in the energy sector, expanding its footprint in both the European and Canadian markets. The move aligns with Trafigura's growth strategy, broadening its supply capabilities and bolstering its position in the global energy market.

Greenergy is a leading European supplier of biofuels, with a legacy dating back to 1992 when the company pioneered lower-emission diesel solutions. Operating state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in the UK and Netherlands, Greenergy has established a dominant position in the UK's road fuel distribution market. The company delivers over 15 billion liters of fuel annually to a diverse customer base, including major supermarkets, oil companies, wholesalers, and commercial clients. In Ireland, Greenergy markets fuel through the Inver Energy and Amber Petroleum brands, while in Canada, it serves commercial and wholesale customers from its rail-fed terminals in Ontario and British Columbia.

Ben Luckock, Head of Oil for Trafigura, highlighted the strong synergies between Trafigura and Greenergy, noting that their collaboration will leverage their combined expertise to drive significant advancements in the energy sector. He underscored that the merger will enable them to not only enhance Greenergy’s existing operations but also to seize new opportunities that support the transition to a lower-carbon economy. With Trafigura’s robust financial capabilities, extensive supply chain management skills, and a broad global customer base, the partnership is poised to provide a powerful platform for accelerating Greenergy’s growth. This integration aims to foster innovation and efficiency in advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Adam Traeger, CEO of Greenergy, hailed the Trafigura acquisition as a transformative milestone for the company's growth strategy. He emphasized that this strategic move will substantially enhance Greenergy's capacity to expedite expansion and optimize its supply chain. Traeger anticipates a synergistic collaboration with Trafigura’s team to elevate Greenergy's capability in delivering dependable transport fuels and diversifying its customer offerings. This alliance is poised to reinforce Greenergy's market positioning and deliver more comprehensive solutions to address the dynamic needs of the energy sector.

Trafigura Group Pte Ltd's acquisition of Greenergy’s European and Canadian supply businesses marks a significant expansion for the global commodity trading firm. Greenergy, renowned as one of Europe’s largest biofuel suppliers, operates major manufacturing facilities in the UK and the Netherlands and stands out as a leading distributor of road fuels in the UK. Greenergy’s global footprint is substantial in Europe.
