Toyo Engineering Corporation, led by President and CEO Eiji Hosoi, has secured a contract to provide front-end engineering design (FEED) services for a bioethylene production facility derived from ethanol. This project is commissioned by Braskem Siam Company Limited, a joint venture formed in August 2023 between Brazil's Braskem SA, headed by CEO Roberto Bischoff, and Thailand's SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited, led by CEO Sakchai Patiparnpreechavud. The FEED marks a crucial step toward the project's final investment decision (FID).

The facility will produce I'm green™ bio-polyethylene, a sustainable alternative that uses renewable feedstocks, specifically ethanol from sugarcane, instead of fossil-based inputs like naphtha derived from petroleum. This innovative production method, licensed by Lummus and Braskem, utilizes the EtE EverGreen™ technology, which captures CO2 from the atmosphere and significantly lowers the carbon footprint (CFP)* of the resulting plastic products. Bioethylene serves as a vital raw material for polyolefins, enabling the manufacture of sustainable plastic goods, including food packaging, household items, and toys. By opting for bio-based materials, manufacturers can advance their net-zero objectives and support the circular economy, making this bioethylene facility a key player in the decarbonization of various plastic consumer products.

Toyo's extensive experience in constructing ethylene plants in Thailand played a crucial role in securing this FEED contract. The company plans to leverage its expertise in plant engineering to foster the growth of the petrochemical industry for both Braskem and SCG, while actively promoting initiatives aimed at achieving a carbon-neutral society and contributing to the burgeoning Southeast Asian market.

Toyo Engineering Corporation has been awarded a contract by Braskem Siam Company Limited for the construction of an ethanol-derived bioethylene production facility located in Map Ta Phut, Rayong Province, Thailand. The facility is designed to have an impressive annual production capacity of approximately 200,000 tons of bioethylene. As part of this project, Toyo will provide essential basic design work, ensuring the successful development of this sustainable production site. The expected completion date for the facility is set for 2025, marking a significant step forward in the production of eco-friendly materials.

Braskem employs approximately 9,000 individuals and is dedicated to advancing the circular economy by delivering sustainable solutions for plastics and various chemical products on a global scale. Rooted in a culture of innovation, Braskem offers a diverse array of chemical products from 40 facilities, serving more than 70 countries across multiple industries, including food packaging, construction, manufacturing, automotive, agriculture, and health and hygiene.
