TotalEnergies has entered into an agreement to sell its fuel distribution operations in Brazil to SIM Distribuidora, a well-established Brazilian company. This transaction includes a network of around 240 fuel stations, along with multiple storage facilities for petroleum products and ethanol. SIM Distribuidora, part of the larger Grupo Argenta, is a prominent player in Brazil's fuel distribution sector and currently manages over 500 service stations in addition to its activities in lubricants and aviation services.

This move aligns with TotalEnergies’ selective strategy within its Marketing & Services division, particularly in the retail network business. The company is focused on consolidating its presence in key geographies where it holds significant market share, allowing it to streamline its global operations and concentrate on areas that offer greater growth potential. Despite this divestment, TotalEnergies will maintain its presence in Brazil through its lubricants blending and distribution business, continuing to serve the Brazilian market in that capacity.

The completion of this acquisition is still subject to regulatory approval from the relevant authorities in Brazil. Once finalized, this deal will reinforce SIM Distribuidora’s position within the fuel distribution market while enabling TotalEnergies to focus more on its core markets.

TotalEnergies has been active in Brazil for nearly 50 years, operating through five subsidiaries and employing over 3,500 people across various business segments, including Exploration & Production, gas, renewable electricity (solar and wind), lubricants, and chemicals. Its Exploration & Production portfolio in Brazil currently comprises 11 licenses, with 4 of them being operated by the company. In 2023, TotalEnergies’ average production in the country is expected to reach around 140,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The company is also making significant investments in Brazil’s renewable energy sector. In October 2022, TotalEnergies entered into a strategic partnership with Casa dos Ventos, the country's leading renewable energy player, to jointly develop a renewable energy portfolio of 12 GW. This partnership underscores TotalEnergies' commitment to expanding its renewable energy footprint in Brazil, supporting its broader goal of transitioning to cleaner energy sources.

TotalEnergies is a global integrated energy company that produces and markets oil, biofuels, natural gas, green gases, renewables, and electricity. With over 100,000 employees, the company is committed to providing energy that is reliable, affordable, and sustainable. Active in approximately 120 countries, TotalEnergies places sustainability at the core of its strategy and operations, striving to meet global energy demands responsibly while reducing environmental impact. The company’s focus on innovation and renewable energy aligns with its mission to support the transition to cleaner energy and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.
