TotalEnergies and Oil India Limited (OIL) have entered into a Cooperation Agreement to implement methane emissions detection and measurement initiatives at OIL's sites in India, utilizing TotalEnergies' cutting-edge AUSEA technology. This collaboration comes on the heels of OIL’s recent commitment to the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), a global industry initiative launched at COP28, which aims to reduce carbon emissions within the oil and gas sector. The OGDC, co-chaired by TotalEnergies' CEO Patrick Pouyanné, is focused on achieving net-zero operations by 2050, with the goal of eliminating routine flaring and reducing upstream methane emissions to near-zero levels by 2030.

A key tenet of the OGDC is transparency, with members pledging to measure, report, and make progress on their decarbonization efforts publicly. TotalEnergies, as a signatory, is supporting the initiative by sharing its innovative technologies, including the AUSEA methane detection tool, with other operators in the sector. The AUSEA gas analyzer, developed in partnership with TotalEnergies' research and development teams, is a revolutionary device designed to detect and measure methane and carbon dioxide emissions. Mounted on a drone, the analyzer employs a dual-sensor system that not only detects the gases but also identifies their source with exceptional precision.

This technology represents a significant advancement over traditional emissions detection methods, providing operators with a more effective way to measure emissions even at hard-to-reach points on both offshore and onshore industrial facilities. Due to its ability to reach areas that were previously difficult to access, the AUSEA system is now regarded as one of the most accurate methane detection technologies in the industry. The system's high level of precision and its capacity to cover a wide range of industrial settings make it an essential tool in the fight against climate change and for achieving the OGDC's ambitious methane reduction targets.

Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, "We are delighted that OIL has joined the growing list of national companies we are collaborating with by making our AUSEA technology available. This is a clear demonstration that the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter launched at COP28 is gaining momentum, as more companies adopt industrial best practices. Today, AUSEA is used globally, performing campaigns on every continent and significantly contributing to the OGDC signatories' goal of near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030."

Dr. Ranjit Rath, Chairman & Managing Director of OIL, emphasized that by joining the OGDC, OIL is reaffirming India's commitment to the global climate agenda and reinforcing its own dedication to emissions reduction. He also conveyed OIL's excitement about collaborating with TotalEnergies, a recognized leader in methane emissions detection. "We are pleased to be working with TotalEnergies, an industry pioneer, to enhance our capabilities in methane emissions detection and measurement," Dr. Rath added.
