TotalEnergies, in collaboration with its consortium partners, has officially declared the initiation of production operations at the Akpo West field situated on the PML2 license in Nigeria. Positioned approximately 135 kilometers off the coastline, the Akpo West field is intricately linked to the pre-existing Akpo Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility. This FPSO facility, which commenced its operations back in 2009, boasted an impressive production output of 124,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the year 2023. As of the middle of 2024, the Akpo West field is slated to make an additional contribution of 14,000 barrels of condensate production per day, with plans in place to ramp up gas production to up to 4 million cubic meters per day by the year 2028.

The strategic development of the Akpo West field is meticulously designed to capitalize on the pre-existing infrastructure available at the Akpo facilities, thereby optimizing costs and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. With an anticipated carbon intensity of below 5 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per barrel of oil equivalent (boe), the project is strategically positioned to play a pivotal role in reducing the average carbon intensity across TotalEnergies' extensive portfolio. Following the successful inauguration of the Ikike project in 2022, TotalEnergies is elated to embark on yet another tie-back venture in Nigeria with the commencement of production at the Akpo West field. This endeavor seamlessly aligns with the overarching strategy of TotalEnergies, which is focused on the development of projects characterized by their cost-effectiveness and minimal environmental footprint.

Leveraging its robust presence and expertise in Nigeria, TotalEnergies anticipates that the Akpo West project will promptly generate significant value for both the country and the company itself, as well as for its esteemed partners. Operating as the operator of the PML2 license with a 24% interest, TotalEnergies collaborates closely with an esteemed consortium comprising CNOOC (45%), Sapetro (15%), Prime 130 (16%), and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd, which serves as the concessionaire of the Production Sharing Contract (PSC).

In essence, the commencement of production operations at the Akpo West field represents a significant milestone for TotalEnergies and its consortium partners, underscoring their unwavering commitment to maximizing the potential of Nigeria's offshore resources. By leveraging existing infrastructure and adhering to stringent environmental standards, this project epitomizes TotalEnergies' dedication to sustainable and responsible energy development practices. As the project progresses, it is poised to not only enhance TotalEnergies' operational capabilities in Nigeria but also contribute positively to the nation's economic prosperity and energy security.
