KEZAD Group, a leading operator of integrated economic zones in Abu Dhabi, along with UAE-based Titan Lithium, has recently inked a significant 50-year land lease agreement. This pact aims to facilitate the establishment of a cutting-edge lithium processing plant within the Khalifa Industrial Area, also known as KEZAD Al Ma’mourah. The plant, slated to be developed in three phases with an investment totaling AED 5 billion by Titan Lithium, will specialize in producing battery-grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide. These essential materials are utilized by battery manufacturers and electric vehicle original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide. Covering an expansive area of 290,000 square meters, this facility marks a pivotal milestone in the UAE's progression as a prominent player in the global lithium processing arena.

This collaboration also aligns with the strategic vision of AD Ports Group, which seeks to encompass the entire automotive industry's supply chain with comprehensive logistics solutions, ranging from factory operations to end-customer delivery.

Upon completion, the plant is projected to import approximately 150,000 tonnes of lithium annually from Titan Lithium's mines in Zimbabwe. This raw material will undergo processing at the adjacent Khalifa Port. Such synergy exemplifies the symbiotic ecosystem cultivated by AD Ports Group in Abu Dhabi, where revenue synergies benefit the entire ecosystem through significant developments within one of its five vertically integrated clusters.

The establishment of the lithium processing plant resonates with the UAE's overarching objectives of fostering innovation and sustainable development, in line with KEZAD Group's sustainable development ambitions. It also mirrors the synergies announced during the COP28 summit held in the UAE and reflects the nation's leadership vision. The UAE warmly welcomes Titan Lithium Industries to KEZAD, anticipating the project's substantial contribution to the UAE's strategic vision of economic diversification and global market reinforcement.

The project is poised to create numerous employment opportunities, invigorate the local economy, and position Abu Dhabi at the forefront of the lithium processing industry. As the world increasingly transitions towards renewable energy sources, lithium's pivotal role as a key component in this transition becomes ever more crucial.

The proposed plant is committed to utilizing state-of-the-art technologies and adopting the best sustainable practices in its operations. This ensures the highest level of environmental responsibility while propelling the global electric vehicle revolution forward.

The availability of processed lithium is paramount for manufacturing battery packs used in electric vehicles, a rapidly expanding sector in the global pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.

As part of its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions, the UAE has announced plans to increase the share of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50 percent of all vehicles sold by 2050. This initiative is expected to drive demand for battery materials within the country, further underscoring the significance of the lithium processing project.
